We are delighted to announce that following the success of Term 1, LEHF Music Academy will continue offering superior music and instrumental lessons, training and exam revision sessions every Saturday morning in Term 2. The new term for the Music Academy will start on 7th Jan 2023.
LEHF Music Academy will continue to provide students with a well-rounded education in music composition, fostering their musical potential and inspiring them to become even more exceptional.
The Music Academy is open to all our current students as well as students outside of the school community. All music lessons will be under the supervision of our experienced Music Director, Mr David Hobourn, who himself has been a music examiner for Trinity College London for 23 years, to ensure high-quality teaching standards.
The LEH Foshan Music Academy’s philosophy is to make learning music fun whilst gaining the confidence, skills, techniques, and discipline required to become a musician. We teach music for graded exams following the ABRSM or Trinity College London examination boards or just as a hobby! In order to maintain a steady progress, reports are provided at the end of term and at the end of the year. This gives an overview of achievements, development, and future targets.
Instrumental Lessons: Piano, Violin, Cello, Clarinet, Oboe, Guitar (classical, ballad, electric), Drum Kit, Guzheng, Pippa
Singing and Music Theory, following the ABRSM grade syllabus.

Mr David Hobourn is the Director of Music of LEH International School Foshan. His career in Music Education started in 1996. He is a Graduate of Trinity College of Music as well as Fellow of the Royal College of Organists. Mr Hobourn held Organist and Choir Direction posts in the cathedrals of Canterbury and Bristol (UK) and Dunedin (New Zealand). During these early days, he was involved in the day to day running of a cathedral choir, which included live BBC broadcasts, playing and directing in front of members of the Royal Family, European choir tours, and giving organ recitals in cathedrals in the UK and other countries in Europe and beyond.
Since 2001, he has taught in schools in France, Thailand and the UK. For the past twenty-three years, he has also worked as a music examiner, Classical, Jazz and Rock & Pop, for Trinity College London. In this article, we also interviewed several students who are studying at the Music Academy, let's hear what they say.
I play the guitar. Having lessons on a Saturday morning means my academic hours during the week are not interrupted. I really enjoyed the guitar lessons and Mr Ye is a fantastic teacher. The lessons are really fun and relaxing.
I really enjoy Music. I have been learning the piano for a few years and I have just started learning clarinet. I enjoy my lessons with Mr Hobourn very much. In the lessons I have improved my technique a lot, which allow me to communicate Music more fully.
This term I play 3 musical instruments which are piano violin and clarinet.
At first, I only play piano, after I joined LEH, Mr Hobourn encouraged me to play a second and third instrument, so that’s when I pick up violin and clarinet. I have never thought that I can play so many instruments. Right now, I am learning piano with Mr. Hobourn. He is highly professional and talented and probably the most passionate music teacher I have ever met.
The music academy provides me with a lot of opportunities to perform. I have the chance to play piano and violin in many concerts and events which build up my confidence and satisfaction. I am having a lot of fun and it comes from the sense of achievement in these performances. I also sing a lot in the school choir. Mr. Hobourn teaches us a lot of singing skills which I didn’t know before.
I really appreciate all the things I have learned and the chances I have been given in the school music academy.
