星星之火,可以燎原|VPA用STEAM教育助力科教兴国
10月16日上午,习近平总书记在党的二十大报告中,提到了科教兴国战略。
“教育、科技、人才是全面建设社会主义现代化国家的基础性、战略性支撑。必须坚持科技是第一生产力、人才是第一资源、创新是第一动力,深入实施科教兴国战略、人才强国战略、创新驱动发展战略,开辟发展新领域新赛道,不断塑造发展新动能新优势。”
在VPA,创新和科技也是我们非常重视的一部分,我们致力于培养能为国家做出贡献的新兴人才。
STEAM不是普普通通的科学课,它结合了科学、科技、工程、艺术和数学,注重于孩子们的探究能力、创造力、解决问题的能力等重要技能与思维模式。这样的课程培养出的孩子热爱科学探究、敢于创造、不怕困难,我们相信,他们会用所学技能为国家创造出更先进、更实用、造福全人类的新兴科技。
未来的很多工作是我们意想不到的,所以我们的教育是得为这不可预料的未来而准备的。
我们的世界是美丽而复杂的。我们如何判断我们能将这广阔的世界包裹在学校的这堵墙内?所以我们需要STEAM教育来打开连接真实世界的门。
近期的研究证明,STEAM教育对学生的后期成就以及老师的教学效果都有正向的影响。研究者找了一帮没有受过STEAM教育的学生,经过9小时的STEAM教导,他们在科学上的成绩有了明显的提升。

Why is STEAM so important
STEAM education is not simply a science class, it combines science, technology, engineering, art and math. It focuses on children's inquiry skills, creativity, problem solving and other important skills and mindsets. This kind of cirriculum teaches children to love science inquiry, be creative, and be risk-takers. We believe, they can use what they learned to create innovative technologies that are more advanced, more practical, and beneficial to all human beings for our country and the whole world.
We are preparing students for jobs that don’t even exist, we are preparing them for the future.
Our world is beautiful, complex, and intricate. How do we believe that we have the ability or the right to box it in behind brick walls and classroom doors in a place called school? So we need to open the doors to the real world by having STEAM education.
Recent research shows that STEAM is a promising approach to positively impacting student achievement and teacher efficacy. Findings indicated that students who received just nine hours of STEAM instruction made improvements in their science achievement (Brouillette, L., & Graham, N. J.).
我们会在每学年初期教学生们在当下的数码时代如何成为更好的公民,以及如何更好地使用我们的电子产品和网络。
在编程课程中,我们会使用一些教学工具,比如Microbit、Scratch还有unplugged coding。
在机器人课程中,我们运用到了Little bits和Ozobot来让学生们了解关于机器人的基础知识。
我们还有3D打印机和3D打印笔,让学生们亲身体验3D打印的魅力,并且可以用这两个工具来将他们的创意从脑海里变成现实。
工程课程中,我们已经进行了弹珠跑活动,学生们自己动手在卡纸上制作了供弹珠掉落的轨道。之后还会学习如何建桥。
我们用Makey makey结合了科技创新与艺术,让每个孩子感受到科技其实离我们很近,我们可以用任何日常用品与电脑连接在一起。

We teach students to be better citizens in today's ditigal world, and to use their devices and the internet wisely.
In the coding class, we would use some tools such as Microbit, Scratch, and unplugged coding.
In the robotics class, we use Little bits and Ozobot for students to know some basic knowledge of robots.
We also have 3D printer and 3D printing pen. Student can experince the beauty of 3D printing and use these two tools to make their dreams come true.
We already had an activity called Marble Run in the engineering class. Students use cardboard to make the pathway for the marbles to run. We will also learn about bridge strucutre in the future.
We use Makey makey to combine technology innovation with art and daily life. They will learn that technology is actually close to us and we can connect it with any subject in daily life.
在已经进行了的STEAM课中,我们的学生们用卡纸、粘土、纸杯、塑料,以及各种材料制作了富有创意的弹珠跑道。
他们通过不断的实验来改进他们的弹珠轨道,学会了产品造型设计的同时,也增强了解决问题的能力、创造力、毅力、团队合作能力等关键技能。
我们还在STEAM课上教授学生们基础科学知识,比如在过去的课程中,他们认识了植物。
通过观察、画图、培育,孩子们了解了植物的结构、植物生长需要的因素、植物的生长过程等科学知识。

In the past STEAM classes, our students used cardboards, clays, cups, plastics, and many other materials to make their creative pathways.
Through continuous experiment, they improved their pathway, and leanred about product design. They also strengthened their abilities in problem solving, creativity, perserance, cooperation, and other key skills.
We also include some basic science lessons in the STEAM class, for example, they've learned about plants in the past few weeks.
Through obseving, drawing, and nurturing the plants, children learned about the structure of a plant, what a plant needs to grow, the growing progress and other knowledge.
首先是STEAM这个科目本身非常吸引人,它的内容丰富多变,囊括了编程、机器人、工程学、科学、艺术等元素,每个人在学习的过程中都充满了惊喜和挑战。在教授的过程中,我同样非常享受这门课程给学生带来的成就感以及他们在完成作品中发挥出来的无穷创作力和想象力,
我相信星星之火,可以燎原。在国家越来越重视青少年科技发展的大背景下,我也希望能够更好地助力中国学生在未来STEAM领域有更大的成就。
STEAM教育可以培养孩子动手技能和多样化的思维角度,在不同的思维方式中交互运用各种跨学科知识和技能。在实践他们生活相关的项目中,实现深层次的学习、理解性学习。
STEAM教育还可以培养学生的团队协作和人际关系处理。在STEAM教育中团队协作是非常重要的一个环节,一个项目就是一个团队,在项目中锻炼学生的团队协作能力和分工分配能力以及人际关系的处理能力。
还有就是让学生们学会分享,重视分享。不论是进行中开展的交流分享还是结束后开展的成果分享对于学生而言都是非常重要的。要让他们体会到创新带来的成就感和价值感,激励他们不断创新。

Why did you choose to be a STEAM teacher?
First of all, STEAM itself is very fastinating, it has a rich content that includes coding, robostics, engineering, science, art and other elements. There are a lot of suprises and challenges during the class. In the teaching process, I personally enjoyed how this class provide students a sense of accomplishment and the opportunity to be creative and innovative.
I believe that a little spark can start a huge blaze. Under the fact that our country pays more and more attention to the development on teenagers learning about technologies, I also hope to better support our students to have bigger achievement in the area of STEAM.
What does STEAM bring to students?
STEAM education can foster students' ability to do the hands on activities and develop their diverse mindsets to use what they learned from the interdisciplinary learnings. By experimenting the projects that connect to their daily life, they could have some deep learnings and learnings with understandings.
STEAM education can also develop students' ability in cooperation and foster their social-emotional development. Coorperation is very important in STEAM and we usually work as a team.
We also want students to learn about sharing. Communicating when making the project or sharing after the project is done are both important. We want them to have the sense of accomplishment and it would encourage them to continuously be creative.
