LEH International School Foshan is excited to announce that our school is now an official UCAS Registered Centre!
In this article, we invited our Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Deborah Kirk to introduce what is UCAS and share some insights into the benefits of a UCAS registered centre and the university guidance offered at LEH Foshan.
Head of Sixth Form
Mrs Kirk has taught Maths for over 30 years around the world in top international schools, including in Bogota (Colombia), Barcelona, Dubai, and Bangkok. Before joining LEH Foshan she was teaching in the UK where she was not only teaching Maths, but also enjoyed the role of Sixth Form Tutor supporting pre-university preparation as well as an A Level Examiner.
UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, is an independent charity, and the UK's shared admissions service for higher education. More than three million applications are made every year. Part of UCAS’s role is to guide prospective students (plus parents and advisers) along the right route, giving them the support and advice they need to make an informed decision about their future.
UCAS processes applications to study full-time courses at universities and colleges in the UK and helps advisers/schools to help their students make informed choices, by guiding them through the entire higher education application process. The application has several divs for students to complete, and a div for a referee to write their reference. Centres approve and submit students’ applications to UCAS on behalf of students linked to them.
The Benefits of
Being a UCAS Centre
As a UCAS registered centre, LEH Foshan helps our students successfully complete the entire application process and has unique access to the students’ applications from their submission to their acceptance by higher education institutions in Great Britain. This way, the school can monitor and track the application progress and make sure our students complete all the necessary steps in due time.
UCAS provides the best possible information to keep the students informed when it comes to the possibilities of studying in Great Britain. During application seasons, our students will regularly receive process updates and reminders for amending their applications.
They will learn how to shape their letters of motivation and what information to include; they will receive updates on dates and other information regarding application to British faculties; information based on their interests when it comes to study fields and interests will be delivered to their school email address. The information is sent directly from UCAS, so all the information is 100% reliable.
When your child is attending a school which is a registered UCAS centre, such as LEH Foshan, it is quite easy for the parents to get involved in the preparation process.
Throughout the year, the parents can choose to receive a monthly newsletter with the latest information and updates on the application process, while using the online assistance tools they can see how studies and university life can be financed, learn about the proper steps in the application process, see whether a university has open days, and much more.
University Guidance at LEH Foshan
A Level students are taught by our experienced secondary teachers many of whom have worked as sixth form tutors before and have rich experience in guiding and supporting students into their preferred universities.
When advising our undergraduates on course choice LEH Foshan takes the individual and gradually using academic results, interviews, personal interests, skills and aptitudes builds up a picture which leads to a shortlist of possible university choices.
Specialist careers and higher education advice is provided through PSHE lessons. Within these lessons and in their spare time, students may use the online self-assessment and analysis tools to inform their choices.
We provide support tailored to the individual and the year group, with options for meetings with parents at key points. LEH Foshan teachers and leaders are always there to help the parents based on their expert understanding of the students’ talents and achievements.
A Level Programme at LEH Foshan
Starting in School Year 2022-23, LEH International School Foshan will offer the prestigious Advanced Level Qualifications Programme (A Level) to our Sixth Form students. This will enable our students finishing their IGCSEs to continue their top-level British Education in Year 12 and 13 at LEH Foshan.
Two years of A Level Programme leads to qualifications recognised for entrance to universities and other higher education institutes in the UK and many other countries worldwide.
