Harvard Model United Nations Conference was established in 1955 and was the world’s oldest and most advanced MUN conference. HMUN is the origin of Model United Nations activity.
The staff of HMUN is carefully selected to include the most passionate and dedicated directors. Each background guide is carefully crafted for its respective committee and reflects thoughtful and thorough research. All of our directors are extremely knowledgeable, dedicated, and committed to HMUN‘s educational mission, resulting in well-run and focused committees. Delegates leave our conference with a newfound passion for international relations and greater awareness of the issues that dominate our world.
Director: A member of the dais that oversees the creation work of delegates, such as role playing, paper work and topic research.
Background Guide: A guide to a topic to be discussed in a Model UN committee usually written by committee directors and distributed delegates before the conference. It's the starting point for an research before a Model UN conference.
Delegates: A student acting as a member, an observer, or an organization.
Begun over 75 years ago with a simulation of the League of Nations, every Harvard Model United Nations conference is the product of years of gradual refinement. While HMUN has expanded considerably since its inception, we are fully committed to ensuring and furthering the excellence of our conference experience at every session of HMUN. For the past ten years, HMUN has promoted a new class of international dialogue and remains dedicated to exploring new and exciting ventures for all conference participants, including delegates and faculty advisors. HMUN 2024 will feature innovative committee simulations, cutting-edge technology, and, of course, great entertainment for delegates outside of the committee.
At HMUN 2024, you will have the opportunity to meet and interact with thousands of high school students from more than 100 high schools worldwide. HMUN features a host of substantive issues for this dynamic group of students and creates a forum for debate, negotiation, and cultural exchange. Our conference is designed to foster negotiation and public speaking skills, introduce students to a range of global challenges, and provide culturally diverse perspectives on various issues. Our strong emphasis on representation at our conference from schools across the globe ensures that the HMUN experience is a truly international one.
