On the morning of November 21, 2023, a delegation led by WONG KIN MOU, Director of Department of Educational Research and Planning from Macau Education and Youth Development Bureau, conducted research and engaged in discussions at our school. Accompanying them were Li Jinjun, Director, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office, Guangdong Provincial Education Department; Lin Ping, Senior Researcher at the Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau, Chen Liubin, Director of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office, and Huang Mian, Second-level Researcher, among others. Also in attendance were Zhang Dapeng, Director of the Office of Basic Education at Jinan University, Lucas Deng Director of ASJ School Board, as well as Tam Yat Yuk, Chief Principal of ASJ Guangzhou, and Jessica Feng, Executive Principal of ASJ Guangzhou.
Li Jinjun, Director, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office, Guangdong Provincial Education Department extended a warm welcome to the delegation from the Macau Education and Youth Development Bureau. He pointed out that the establishment of schools for Hong Kong and Macau students in China Mainland is a specific requirement to implement the policies outlined in the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area." The purpose is to provide educational convenience for the children of Hong Kong and Macao residents working and living in mainland China, reflecting the country's concern and support for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region. Li stated that Guangdong Provincial Education Department will vigorously promote the construction of schools for children of Hong Kong and Macao residents, adhering to the principles of "central requirements, Bay Area orientation, Hong Kong and Macao needs, and Guangdong capabilities." Currently, nine schools for children of Hong Kong and Macao residents have been established in the province, with Hong Kong and Macao classes being offered in 29 primary and secondary schools. In the future, Guangdong Provincial Education Department will continue to maintain communication with education departments in various regions, strongly supporting the construction of schools for children of Hong Kong and Macao residents and working together to promote the deepening and solidification of education cooperation in the Greater Bay Area.
WONG KIN MOU, Director of Department of Educational Research and Planning from the Macau Education and Youth Development Bureau, stated that the purpose of this visit was to gain in-depth understanding of the operation of schools for children of Hong Kong and Macao residents, learn from its experiences, and explore the possibilities and ways of cooperation in education between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. He expressed full affirmation of ASJ educational level and achievements, stating that the Macau Education and Youth Development Bureau is willing to strengthen communication and exchanges with Guangdong Provincial Education Department, Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau, Jinan University, and deepen cooperation to jointly promote the deepening and solidification of education cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, contributing to the construction of the Greater Bay Area and national development.
Lin Ping, Senior Researcher at Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau, introduced the overall situation of Guangzhou's schools for children of Hong Kong and Macao residents and the achievements in promoting the construction of these schools and educational integration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in recent years. He shared measures taken in the management and services of schools for children of Hong Kong and Macao residents, such as promoting service trade innovation pilots, creating campus safety measures, and establishing educational exchange platforms. He stated that Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau will continue to support the development of schools for children of Hong Kong and Macao residents, providing necessary guarantees for high-quality education for these students and promoting schools to better play a demonstrative and radiative role, continuously increasing high-quality international educational resources in Guangzhou.
During the meeting, participants conducted in-depth discussions on policies related to schools for Hong Kong and Macao students, the school operation model, enrollment promotion, operational model, teacher recruitment, curriculum design, and other aspects. All parties expressed their willingness to actively explore innovative models and mechanisms for educational cooperation, strive to build a demonstration zone for international education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and contribute educational strength to the construction of the Greater Bay Area and national development.
