On Monday, AIC held its first Pi Day celebration. Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th around the world. Pi (Greek letter " π ") is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant, the value of which is approximately 3.14159. Pi Day is an annual opportunity for maths enthusiasts to recite the infinite digits of Pi, celebrate maths, and eat pie.

周一，AIC 举行了首次圆周率日庆祝活动。每年的3月14日，全世界都会庆祝圆周率日。Pi（希腊字母“π”）是数学中用来表示常数的符号，其值约为3.14159。每年的圆周率日都是数学爱好者背诵圆周率的无限数字、庆祝数学和吃馅饼的好机会。

To mark Pi Day, teachers organised a special assembly in the theatre. Hosted by Donnie, our Head of Maths, the assembly featured competitions, prizes and pie!

常识问答

The first competition organised by Toni, our CAS coordinator, was a version of the TV game show Jeopardy. Students took part in rounds of general knowledge questions, which varied in difficulty. Shany, our IB Maths teacher, hosted this part of the competition.

Following that, Donnie gave a short lecture about maths problems and paradoxes. His speech was fascinating, and students found themselves drawn into his stories about unsolved maths problems.

Lastly, our drama teacher Nicola invited students on stage to recite the digits of Pi. Phoenix from DP1 was a notable contestant, reciting 70 digits of Pi, but the winner was Summer from IGCSE 2, who could recite 100 numbers. All contestants in the competition won a piece of delicious pie baked by Thurston, our IGCSE Maths teacher. Of course, after they knew there was pie to eat, everyone wanted to compete!

最后，戏剧老师 Nicola 邀请同学们上台背诵圆周率的数字。DP1 的 Phoenix 是一位值得关注的选手，背诵了70 位数字。但获胜者是 IGCSE 2 的 Summer，她可以背诵 100 个数字。所有参赛选手都获得了由IGCSE 数学老师Thurston烘焙的美味馅饼。当然，当他们知道有馅饼吃之后，每个人都想比试！

It was a glorious Pi event, and we look forward to finding out who can solve the Pi puzzles on display in the library this week. Thank you to all the teachers involved in organising this educational and fun event for our students.
