"Two educators -- school and family -- must not only act in concert and demand the same things from the children, but must have the same interests, the same beliefs, and always proceed from the same principles..."
-- Sukhomlinsky, former Soviet educator
Following the Parents Information Night of the Primary School, the Early Years Division also hosted their Parents Information Night of this academic year.
At the beginning of each academic year, each division hosts "Parents Information Night" where parents and teachers are allowed opportunities to meet and connect with each other and reach a deeper consensus so that they can better support each other in children's education and development.
Ms. Mo Yinghua, Head of Early Years, welcomed the parents. In August, OCAC Suzhou became an authorized IBPYP school. Mr. Mo shared the good news with parents and introduced the Early Years Programme.
Ø IBPYP – is a curriculum framework that focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both at school and beyond.
Ø Play based – allowing children to be “in charge” and making meanings, problem solving, developing physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills.
Ø Dual language – 70% to 90 % English and 10% to 30% Chinese according to levels
Ø Assessment – through conferences, PreK (Parents’ Teachers Conference), K1 and K2 (Three Way Conference) and K3 (Student LED Conference)
In addition to homeroom teachers, the kindergarten is also staffed with professional and experienced specialist teachers of PE, art, dance, music and library.
The specialists took the stage in turn to introduce themselves and share their educational experience with parents.
"Integrate professional PE knowledge and skills into daily teaching within the IBPYP framework... Encourage children to brave uncertainty and explore independently."
"Let the children feel and appreciate the wonder and beauty of the world and express their thoughts."
"By reading, children are encouraged to explore concepts of local and global significance, to think, to speak and to communicate."
Visiting the children’s classroom, seeing their work, and talking to the teachers may be the most exciting part for the parents.
Homeroom teachers introduced themselves to the parents. From academic background, to teaching experience, to educational philosophy... Full understanding and trust will lay a good foundation for family-school communication.
In kindergarten, "every day is a lesson". What do the children do? How do you learn from it? ... Through the introduction of teachers, parents had a more detailed understanding of kindergarten learning and life.
As Ms. Mo said, the school and parents share the same direction and goal in children's education. We hope the Parent Information Night will be a good start for parent-school cooperation.
In November, there will also be three-way conferences and student-led conferences for each grade in the kindergarten. We look forward to seeing the children’s every step of their growth.
