With the best wishes of everyone, Ardingly College Zhongshan(Kindergarten) was pleased to have held a special Chinese National Cultural event on the occasion of China’s National Day 2022, combining the great accomplishments of modern China and in celebration of 73 years of monumental moments and to nurture a new generation of Chinese souls.
Revisiting the Famous
Long March Together
Do you know the story behind the 9.6 million square kilometres?
The vast territory China occupies is inseparable from the period of arduous struggle in the past. 25,000 miles, 300,000 Red Army soldiers, of whom 176,300 gave their lives ...... The children may not have a clear idea of these figures, but our Long March roleplay activity prepared by the teachers gave every child a glimpse of the difficulties of encountered by past generations.
Climbing the snow-capped mountains, Crossing the Grassy plains and Flying over the Luding Bridge ...... The teachers chose to use different shapes and PE setups to simulate the challenges of the Red Army's Long March. After the children were dressed in bright red, their 'Long March' began!
The combination of National Cultural Education and Personal, Social, and Physical Education is one of the highlights of ACZS, and the children were able to fully immerse themselves in this experience. Whether it was climbing over a tall "hill" with their tender hands, crawling carefully through a muddy "swamp" or many of the other simulated, the children working through the activities on their hands and knees, conveyed their respect for their elders and strengthened their determination on the "Long March".
Celebrating the
National Day Together
A military review and parade is a grand ceremony that has taken place after the founding of modern China. The fully armed Chinese soldiers will be paraded by and reviewed by the people, the Party and the State and is the most dazzling way to celebrate the National Day in the minds of the Chinese people. As a new generation of young Chinese citizens, how can children miss this important moment?
Led by our teachers, the children gathered together in small, neatly arranged groupings, while their eyes were glued to the magnificent images on the screen. Without too many words, the spirit of the Chinese army was enough to conquer every child and planted a deep sense of national and cultural confidence in them.
In order to celebrate the festival and to help children increase their sense of patriotism, the next activity was a flag-making. The children divided the red paper into small pieces and glued them onto the pre-prepared models, than added five dazzling five-pointed stars.
In the eyes of the children, the flags they made not only represent a sense of achievement, but also their deep love and admiration for their country.
When the five-star red flag flies with them in all corners of the world someday, we firmly believe that our children will feel proud and honoured.
Singing the National
Anthem Together
At Ardingly College Zhongshan(Kindergarten), we have more ways of being patriotic. Singing is often the best way for children to express their feelings, and so a unique singing competition was held under the leadership of the Head of the Early Years.
Wearing red clothes, holding red flags and feeling for their country, the children took to the stage and joined hands to present a generous selection of patriotic themed songs including ‘March of the Volunteers’ and ‘Ode to the Motherland’.
In this singing competition, every child was a winner, using their tender voices to sing the clearest tribute to their country.
A Festive Message From
the Head of Early Years
On the occasion of the National Day, I can think of no more meaningful education at this moment than the transmission of Chinese culture and the sowing of the Chinese soul.
As a bilingual kindergarten preparing children for the future, the education we give our children should be rooted in the history, culture and spirit of the country, so as to help them gain a strong cultural and national confidence and become future citizens who are different yet at peace with the world.
With the hope of education in a new era, the teachers worked together to create a week-long National Day activity schedule, using bits and pieces of the journey of Modern China as an educational backdrop, sharing with the children the touching stories of countless generations before them, conveying cultural values for the times and, more importantly, giving them the responsibility of carrying on and developing innovative Chinese traditional culture.
Love your country, love your family and proudly carry the banner of the next generation of Chinese youth; think of the world and become a new generation of future citizens. In addition to the great expectations for our country, on behalf of all the educators of ACZS, I would like to offer my best wishes to our country on the occasion of the 73rd Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and wish you continue to thrive today and create a great era for tomorrow!
——Hannah Han, Head of Early Years
ACZS is committed to developing a modern education with Chinese characteristics and global standards, aiming to blend the best of Chinese and International culture to empower children for their future paths. We are sure that you will have noticed that kindergarten has spared no effort in bringing children a more colourful experience by exploring our traditional Chinese festivals.
The constant interweaving of traditional Chinese cultural events with the highlights of Western education has helped the children to gain a better understanding of two of the critical IB learner profiles, knowledgeable and open-minded. More importantly, we aim to develop a high degree of national awareness and world perception.
