当经过的时候,老师们便能引导式地发出提问:What do you like?

Why leaves change colors in autumn?

The famous Italian early childhood educator, Loris Malaguzzi, argued that there is a third teacher between parents and teachers, and that is the environment. In his view, although parents and teachers are important players in a child's developmental journey, it is the environment with which the child is surrounded that has a profound impact on the child's life in a 'hidden education' way.
Like Loris Malaguzzi, Ardingly College Zhongshan(Kindergarten) also looks to the environment as a unique medium for learning. We want the classroom to be more than just a space for the children's daily learning, we want every corner of the classroom to be an object of 'communication' for the children, to hold their passion for exploration and their need to learn, and to give more opportunities for each dream to be expressed.

The First
Environmental Competition
Based on the great demand for environmental education for children, Ardingly College Zhongshan(Kindergarten) has taken 'environmental creation' to a new level, with the current children's exploration unit 'Who we are' as the theme. We held The First Environmental Competition aiming to provide both educational and cross learning value. As teachers, they have used their years of experience and deep understanding of IB teaching to create more developmentally appropriate and challenging scenes for the classrooms.
For the rest of the time, let's step into a world that is unique and full of life!

For younger children, mood swings are a necessary part of their development. Therefore, we have used the picture book story My Emotional Monsters as the subject for the creation of exaggerated and colourful monsters, so that when children's eyes are drawn to them, they can clearly recognise the differences between emotions.
In addition, the corner of the classroom has been specially decorated and the children's common emotions are clearly divided into four colours: yellow, blue, red and purple. Whenever the children's moods change, the attentive teachers can first let them perceive the current mood and the corresponding colour, and then give them the correct and positive response in a guided manner.
The inquiry theme wall is the most important presence in the classroom, recording the children's current pace of exploration. In the case of 'Our Body', for example, curious children are bound to have countless questions about their bodies, and by posting the main components of their bodies on the wall where they are most visible on a regular basis, they can further deepen what they have learnt.
The 'touch wall' below acts as an extension of knowledge, stimulating the children's interest in learning and helping them to preview the new knowledge to come.

People and nature have always been inextricably linked, and making the harmony between them as the first unit of inquiry for children will be the best way to help them understand 'Who we are'.
From the entrance to the classroom, the dark green cactus covers and the dense vine man bring the room to life and encourage children to actively think about the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature. At some point during their exploration, they may think of the trees standing in the streets and alleys or the vegetation covering the mountains and lakes, and gain a deep understanding of the fact that humans and nature are always close partners.
The plant corner in the classroom is also an area to reinforce their natural thinking and farming skills. Although there is not much space in the corner, there is enough variety, be it beans, cereals or potatoes, for the teachers to guide the children through each stage of the plant's growth with careful cultivation and observation. This could be the first piece of agricultural knowledge in a child's life!
In view of the height of the children, the classroom was armed with a ring of creativity all the way down to the floor. The moment the children lower their heads, they are greeted with pictures of fruit and words. As they pass by, the teachers are able to ask the question, "What do you like?" and the children can quickly jump to their favourite fruit and proudly give their answer: I like apples! Language initiation can happen at any time.

The children are natural artists, the teachers are just their creative handlers! As you walk through the aisles into the Team Gamma area, a giant wall painting is sure to make you stop and look. Each stroke on the paper is a display of the children's innocence, imagination and creativity. This corner will also be used for regular updates of the different paintings.
As well as supporting children's creativity, the layout of the space can also assist children in exploring their individual inner worlds. Jared's Cool Out Space is a thematically matched and well written picture book, and making it the theme for the book wall helps children to understand their own emotions and feelings at all times. At the same time the teachers have also painted and encouraged the children to release their inner emotional world on a giant scroll as a way of helping them to release their 'bad moods'.
Next to the book wall is a comprehensive area made up of different drawing papers and works. "What is the happiness of a family?" , the children used a piece of wavy paper to represent a family member, while the different colours represented the different roles of dad, mum, grandpa, grandma, brother and sister. This is the answer that the children give to this theme of exploration in an artistic and mathematical way.
The family questionnaire is a work of art drawn by the children after thorough communication and research within their capabilities. An insight into their closest parents is their way of observing the feelings of their family and understanding the origins of happiness. We are sure that the happiness questionnaire has an answer for family responsibility and caring feelings!

Why leaves change colours in autumn? On a sunny day, we took the children on a journey through the uniqueness of autumn. In the process, the children collect leaves and twigs on their own initiative, and the teacher then teaches the children about the integration of art and science, and then uses topography to reveal the chlorophyll and carotene in the leaves.
In supporting the children's personal emotional development, as well as choosing to create wall art with Sophie’s Choice as a way of guiding them to deal with their overwhelming emotions, we also found a lot of educational and creative inspiration in the uniquely shaped clouds.
Using drawing and paper-cutting techniques that are in keeping with the children's love of paper, the children were able to freely colour the clouds and write the names of some of their friends using lines that resembled raindrops, making for a great loop that was both visually rich and a constant reminder of friendship between the children!

At a time when children are growing up with a sensitive language, and when the education they receive from the environment is more subtle, it is particularly important to have a lively English footnote in every corner. Whether it is the exploration area, the artwork display, the classroom rules or the presentation of the exploration unit, we have used distinctive English words as the tone of the environment to practice the children's language thinking and cross-cultural adaptation skills.
The Y-chart was used to empower the children's recent exploration of the theme of 'The Unique Me'. Considering that older children have the most basic comprehension skills and can analyse different dimensions of questions, teachers use the Y-chart to help future young learners reach their goals quickly.
In addition to completing the Y-chart, some of the children chose to work with their teachers to create wall art and create some visually powerful paintings. Other children were able to choose to write notes in English to enhance the completeness and presentation of their work.
Each of these unique and charming creations gives a second life to Ardingly College Zhongshan(Kindergarten). They are like talking corners, meaningful, heart-warming, creative and real. We have shown that art can always happen around children, in every corner that can be seen and touched.
And we have proved that a pair of hands and a whim can give more possibilities to the living and learning space. The teachers have supported the children in their countless explorations and given them the impetus to grow stronger and more determined.
