"Bang!" The white ball danced through the air in a beautiful arc with a crisp sound as the club was swung. If we were to rank the elegance of sports, golf, a "gentleman's sport" that originated in Scotland in the 15th century, would have to take its place!
This elegant and comprehensive sport is also included in the children's daily physical education classes at Ardingly College Zhongshan(Kindergarten). Based on the concept of holistic education, which is based on the fusion of the East and the West, we hope that the unique colour of golf will give children a strong physical body as well as an understanding of the character and spirit that can be developed behind the sport.
Golf is a classic example of a niche sport, and its name alone reflects its spirit:
G is for green, which helps people to return to nature after living in the modern world.
O is for oxygen, which is both aerobic and energising.
L is for light, which is the main theme when exercising.
F is for friendship, which enables people to build quality social relationships.
The long learning process of golf's ups and downs will foster a resilient, hard-working attitude towards learning; the 500-year old cultural etiquette will be the perfect helper for children to hone their qualities of grace, integrity, respect and humility.
As a comprehensive sports' it is even far less demanding than other sports in terms of the selection of learners. There are no significant restrictions on age, size or strength in golf, which means that there is often a high level of safety when children take part in this sport.
Whether it's a dazzling display of ball striking or a practice swing that carries courage and confidence, the golf classes at Ardingly College Zhongshan(Kindergarten) are a unique sight to behold!
Golf is an elite niche sport with complex rules and a large number of skills required. Learning the swing alone can be divided into the 4Ps: Preparation, Pivots, Positions and Put Together.
In the face of the unpredictable game of golf, the nursery has once again made tiered teaching (i.e. individualised teaching) one of the most important methods in the classroom.
Beginners will be introduced to the game in an indoor golf classroom. Using a ten-finger grip (also known as a baseball grip), the beginners will be taught the basics of the pre-swing, the starting stance, and will be helped step by step to master the swing, the chip, the slice, the putt and other advanced strokes.
For children who have some basic skills, the classroom is a very different story at this point. The teacher will first tailor the grip to the size of the child's fingers and hands, such as the locking grip and the overlapping grip, to help them integrate their hands with the club.
As they master the 11 swings, the children will be taught to think about the ball at a higher level, including nine different shots, including a left curve and a right curve. As the children gain experience in the field, their next turn will be even more magnificent!
Mr. Jim, who has a professional golf background, has been a silent supporter behind the children in their pursuit of their sporting dreams: "Professional golfers spend 80% of their time adjusting their preparation, and their swing is influenced by the different sizes, heights and arm lengths of each child. So whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, I will use my own body of knowledge and years of coaching experience to help children develop solid fundamentals to support them to have a better golfing life!"
