2022 has gone by in a hurry, but the century-old educational genes brought to us by Ardingly College, UK, has brought with it new vitality and life to the understated and pragmatic city of Zhongshan. Inheriting the educational genes of Ardingly College, UK, one of the world's top 10 IB co-ed schools, Ardingly College Zhongshan (ACZS) has achieved several milestones in its first year of operation with an outstanding performance in the first year. From the official school announcement to the completion of the kindergarten and finally the opening of the Kindergarten, it has gathered the trust and support of countless Greater Bay Area families at every crucial stage.
Official Launch of Ardingly College Zhongshan
As a key project of Zhongshan City, Ardingly College Zhongshan held its first official event on the 9th of April 2022 at the Hilton Zhongshan Lihe Hotel, following the project unveiling at the "Zhongshan 3-28" event in 2021. The event attracted real-time media coverage, including Zhongshan TV, Southern Metropolis Daily and Yangcheng Evening News, and a number of senior Chinese and international education experts expressed their acknowledgements and praise for the school's inquiry-based, project-based education and provided their best wishes. Hundreds of families came to the launch event, and after listening to the presentation, many families shared their eagerness to enrol with us directly.

Since the opening of the school in the autumn last year, Ardingly College Zhongshan (Kindergarten) which follows the IB PYP framework, has been committed to continually improving and enhancing the quality of its teaching and learning. In less than three months of operation, the kindergarten has passed the official screening and rigorous testing by the IBO, and has become one of the very few ‘IB PYP Candidate Schools’ in Zhongshan (School Code: 062919)! Ardingly College Zhongshan is committed to providing students with diverse learning experiences and a multi-track pathway to their future. In particular, the development and cultivation of early music literacy is important and will be of support no matter their future pathways. Last year, the kindergarten entered into a partnership with The Tianjin Juilliard School, the first overseas co-operative programme in the 100-year history of The Juilliard School, which is known as the "Harvard of Music", to provide children with a world class education through its ‘Music Essentials Programme’.

At our first open day last year, hundreds of families were invited to witness our cooperation agreement being signed with leading domestic agricultural and livestock companies such as ‘Pagoda’ and ‘SZCH’, in order to continue to bring the best raw and high quality ingredients to young children to ensure their healthy growth.

In 2022, ACZS completed the hiring of our school team and ensured all the kindergarten teachers were in place according to the opening schedule. As we enter 2023, we will continue to invite senior educational figures domestically and internationally to join the school's Academic Committee, the management teams of the different divs will be in place, and the team of frontline teachers will continue to develop at a high standard.

The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China kicked off at 10am on 16 October in the Great Hall of the People. General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered an important report to the Congress on behalf of the 19th Central Committee. In order to carry out the objectives and guidelines of the Party’s Central Committee for education, the school leaders and staff watched the opening ceremony of the Congress live on the Internet or TV, and after the opening ceremony, they summarised and optimised their future educational work in the light of the national strategy of invigorating the country through science and reinvigorating China through human resource development’.

The children's learning journey is enriched by a team of experienced and caring educators. With IB PYP at the core of their education, the children are guided by teachers who stimulate their multilingual thinking, develop a basic understanding of the world, discover their unique potential, through the joint efforts of both the school and parents, children developed more positive character traits and an even richer sense of personal emotion.
Multilingual Thinking and Development
Ardingly College Zhongshan(Kindergarten) aims to create a multilingual learning environment for all children. To provide a truly immersive environment the language must be used not only in the lesson, but throughout transition times, snack times, both inside the classroom and in the public areas of the campus. This is the only way to really ensure an immersive language environment for students. In addition to supporting the children's development of a native bilingual mindset through circle time, play-based lessons and English stories, the teachers also used an English-focused environment to continuously improve the children's 'listening, speaking, reading and writing' skills.
In addition, we provide Spanish language exploration as our 3rd language, creating additional opportunities for students and providing access to over 70% of the world’s languages.

The kindergarten curriculum and framework incorporate the core elements of the IB PYP. We encourage children to explore different themes, areas, and materials through child-centred play and inquiry, authentic scenarios and items, and targeted learning and activities. We allow children to understand themselves and the world around them through independent and guided exploration in a variety of areas.
There are six transdisciplinary themes that make up the Units of Inquiry (UOI). This Transdisciplinary approach while sharing a common theme breaks down traditional standalone subjects and integrates Language, Logic, Science, The Arts, Social Studies, and Personal, Social, & Physical Development according to ability, interest, and individual contexts allowing students to think for themselves, take responsibility for their own learning and provide them an action point to continue to develop in a holistic way.
For example, on the field trip held last autumn, the kindergarten took the ‘classroom’ out of the campus and took the children to places such as the zoo, the farm and the life experience roleplay centre, helping them to complete a learning task with a different theme but with similar objectives through close integration with the UOI.

Combining Chinese and International Standards
Physical Education and health plays a vital role in the development of young children at all stages. We encourage students to be active and interact with their peers and to learn about teamwork and cooperation through sports.
We employ a dedicated PE teacher to develop a robust PSPE learning programme (e.g. golf, fencing, health) for our students to develop core physical skills such as coordination, body control and gross motor development. Children will be supported and encouraged by their teachers throughout this process to ensure they fully understand the importance of physical activity, which includes learning about healthy lifestyles, healthy food choices and working to combine what they learn at school with what they are able to do and connect with at home.

Empowered by Art & Science
As an important part of the everyday Kindergarten classroom, the transdisciplinary model of teaching and learning integrates a whole range of disciplines into early childhood exploration activities. Novel experiences in the children's daily learning life include, but are not limited to, Lego, programming, performing arts, visual arts and more, which ensures unique inquiry-based learning in the classroom.

The personal, social and emotional development of our students at Ardingly College Zhongshan(Kindergarten) includes the following five broad areas:

In-depth Support from Home and School
Ardingly College Zhongshan (Kindergarten) places great importance on the communication with parents. Effective communication and regular feedback is an important way to build a closer relationship between the school and our families. In addition to setting up a comprehensive communication system between home and school, we have invited several parent representatives to join the Kindergarten's "Partnership Project", and through the creation of the first Parent Support Group, we have been able to better facilitate communication and cooperation between parents, teachers and the school leadership team.
