Principal Dawid, welcome to the BIBS family! Would you like to introduce yourself?
大家好!我是青苗顺义校区新任初高中校长,今年是我在中国生活的第7年,怀着喜悦和兴奋,我加入了青苗大家庭,期待能尽我所能帮助学校发展。
自2007年以来,我一直在预授权/授权的IB世界学校从事教学及教育领导工作,也曾作为IB大会的负责人,为亚太地区及欧洲的老师组织培训会。除了担任IB学校访问领导,我也负责在核查和评估期间评估学校,以IB顾问的身份为学校提供帮助。此外,我也是WASC访问委员会成员。在伦敦和迈阿密校长培训中心完成课程后,我获得了国际学校领导能力资格认证。多年来,本着终身学习的精神,我一直在从事学校管理和领导工作,并参与了多场专业发展培训。目前正在完成哈佛商学院和哈佛教育研究生院的课程,我期待着以我的知识、技能和经验,为青苗学生的发展创造最好的学习环境。

I would like to use this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Middle School and High School Principal of BIBS Shunyi Campus. It is with great joy and excitement that I am joining the BIBS Family in my 7th year of living in China and I am looking forward to supporting the school as an experienced IB continuum school administrator with working knowledge of both IB authorization and WASC accreditation processes. I have been working as an educator and pedagogical leader in candidate and authorized IB world schools since 2007, and as an IB workshop leader, I have been conducting workshops for teachers across the Asia-Pacific region and Europe. In addition to performing the role of an IB School Visit Team Leader, in charge of evaluating schools during verification and evaluation visits, as well as supporting schools as an IB Consultant, I am also a trained WASC Visiting Committee Member. After completing courses at The Principals Training Center in London and Miami, I was awarded the Certificate of International School Leadership. In keeping with my lifelong learning ethos, over the years, I have been involved in multiple professional development opportunities, both as a participant and instructor. I am currently completing the course leading to the Certificate in School Management and Leadership with Harvard Business School and Harvard Graduate School of Education and I am looking forward to applying all my knowledge, skills and experience in creating best possible conditions for the development of our BIBS students.
您在中国几年了?当初是什么原因让您选择来到中国?能否谈谈您对中国的感受?
When and why did you first come to China? How do you find China?
2014年,我和家人定居北京,从此中国便成了我们的家。我的妻子Kate将加入青苗担任英语培训项目主任,我们的孩子也将分别就读青苗顺义校区的6年级和3年级,开始青苗之旅。我们热爱悠久的中华历史和文化,并热衷于学习汉语和传统文化,以便真正融入中国。
我们认为,具有全球意识的公民应当首先了解自身文化和根源,这与我们欣赏的青苗教学理念不谋而合。我们家庭的文化源自波兰,因此我们在努力创造家庭多语言和多文化的氛围,帮助孩子们学习新文化和语言的同时,也使他们铭记自身的语言和文化根源。

My family and I settled in Beijing in 2014 and we consider China our home. My wife, Kate, is also joining BIBS as the English Training Program Director, and our children begin their BIBS journey as MYP grade 6, and PYP grade 3 students, both in the Shunyi Campus. We love China with its rich history and culture and are deeply devoted to learning Chinese language and traditions in order to be true members of the Chinese community. We also believe that for all globally minded citizens, it is extremely important to understand both other cultures and one’s own roots, which is something we truly appreciate in BIBS philosophy and approach to education. Our own cultural heritage comes from Poland and we strive to keep our home multilingual and multicultural, supporting our children in learning new ways but also maintaining their own linguistic and cultural roots.
在中国从事教育工作的这些年,您如何看待中国的教育?
How do you find the education industry of China?
当下学生们生活在日新月异的世界中,中国的教育体系是为中国学生的需求而设计的。随着世界的快速发展和技术革命,中国一直在探索教育体制改革,并且已经落实了部分改革。作为一名在中国教育行业从业多年的外国专家,我正在观察这些变化,并且很荣幸有机会参与其中并做出贡献,为下一代中外学生服务。

Chinese educational system is tailored to the needs of Chinese students, who live in the everchanging world which surrounds them. With the fast-developing world and technological revolution, China has been looking into ways of reforming the educational system, with many changes already in progress. As a foreign expert working in the education industry in China for 6 years, I am observing those changes and I feel honored to be given the opportunity to contribute to the processes and be able to serve the next generation of Chinese and foreign students.
作为一名教育研究者和工作者,您如何理解和看待“教育”?您自己的教育理想是什么?
Being an educator, what does Education mean to you? What’s your ideal for education?
我认为教育是人类最重要的使命之一。通过培养现在的学生,我们可以影响未来的世界。教育是一项长期使命,孔子曾言:“一年之计,莫如树谷;十年之计,莫如树木;终身之计,莫如树人。”在我看来,理想的教育是因材施教的过程,培养孩子们不断发展,发挥自己的最佳潜力。对我来说,教育是涵盖学生认知、社会、身体和情感发展的全过程。我们同样需要记住,教育不随毕业而终止,它是一个持续的过程,需要我们成为终身学习者。作为一名学校领导,我的主要目标之一是支持老师们提高专业发展,更好地为学生服务。

I view education as one of the most important missions of humankind. By shaping our students today, we shape the world of tomorrow. I understand that education is a long-term mission which aligns with the famous quote attributed to Confucius: “If your plan is for one year, plant rice. If your plan is for ten years, plant tree. If your plan is for one hundred years, educate children.”In my view, the ideal education is a process tailored to the needs of individual students, so that they can continuously develop and keep reaching their best potential. For me, education is a process that embraces the whole child and his/her cognitive, social, physical and emotional development. It is also important to remember that education is not something that should stop after graduation. I believe in education as an ongoing process and consider myself a life-long learner. As a school leader, one of my main goals is to support teachers in their continuous development, so that they can better support students every day of their work.
您如何看待“国际教育”?作为一名外方校长,您如何定位“中国国际教育”中的国际教育?
What’s a true international education in your point of view? How do you define a Chinese international education?
我对国际教育的看法主要包括以下几点:课程、国际意识、社区以及教和学的方法。作为一名IB教育家,我感谢IB为从幼儿园到12年级的各阶段提供课程框架。因为IB是一个框架,它的规定概念、学科目标和核心组成部分可以与其他课程兼容,其中包括中国国家课程。
IB教育的核心之一是国际意识,所有的人都是相互联系、各自不同但彼此平等的;所有人都应当为世界的文化多样性负责。我们理解和欣赏其他文化的前提,是理解和欣赏自己的文化。在多样化的青苗大家庭,来自世界各地不同国家的教师为大家提供丰富的视角,学生们可以接触不同的文化,这份宝贵的经历将培养学生们成为真正的全球公民,在未来的专业国际环境中能够有效地理解和行动。最后,通过教和学的方法,以学生为中心的方法和各种学习机会,学生们可以交换意见和观点,团结合作,在课堂上接受国际教育。

I see international education through several lenses: curriculum, international mindedness, community, as well as approaches to teaching and learning. As a dedicated IB educator, I appreciate the curriculum framework provided by the IB for every educational level from Kindergarten up to grade 12. As it is a framework, the prescribed concepts, subject objectives and core components of IB programs are compatible with different types of curricula, including Chinese national curriculum. One of the core aspects of IB education is international mindedness, a view that all people are connected, different but equal, responsible for our shared world which is beautiful because of its diversity of cultures. The first step to understand and appreciate other cultures is to understand and appreciate own culture. The BIBS community is diverse and the faculty coming from different countries and parts of the world provides richness of perspectives and allows students to be exposed to different cultures. It is an invaluable experience that prepares our students to become true global citizens, capable of understanding and acting with efficiency in future professional international contexts. Finally, through the approaches to teaching and learning, with student-centered approach and active learning opportunities where students can exchange views and perspectives, collaborate as a team while developing individually, all aspects of international education come together in the classroom.
能谈谈是什么样的契机让您来到青苗吗?您眼中的青苗是什么样子的?
What brought you and BIBS together and what’s BIBS like in your eyes?
我来到青苗的主要原因是,青苗的教学理念、使命和座右铭与我对教育的看法完全契合。我认为每个教育家在思考具体课程计划和内容之前都应该记住“爱、关心和支持”。我欣赏青苗国际课程与中国课程的独特融合,相互补充,为学生创造一个独特的环境,帮助学生茁壮成长,实现自我。

One of the main reasons that brought me to BIBS is the fact that the school’s philosophy, mission and motto fully align with my personal view on education. “Care, love and support” is what I believe every educator should have in mind before thinking about specific lesson plans and content. I appreciate the unique blend of international and Chinese practices which come together at BIBS, complementing each other, and creating a unique environment for students where they can thrive and be themselves.
此次出任青苗外方校长职位,是否能谈谈您接下来的工作计划和目标?以及如何将这些目标落实在具体的教学工作中?
What’s your plan and goal? How are you going to accomplish these goals?
我的主要目标是确保所有初高中生在充满关爱的环境中接受优质教育。作为一名学校领导,我非常重视教师的选拔和专业发展,如果所有教职工都有相同愿景,并在学校发展各自技能,培养理解力,我们会取得最佳结果。作为一名经验丰富的IB顾问和培训会领导者,我喜欢直接与团队一起接受专业发展项目,或为团队提供专业发展项目。作为一名教育管理者,我在所有的计划和行动中始终牢记学校的核心任务——教学和学习。
青苗拥有强大的领导团队和一群敬业、有才华、勤奋的教育工作者。通过大家团结努力、我们将制定强有力的教学监督计划,为疫情可能带来的变化作准备,并且强有力地贯彻执行学校的使命和相关政策。我相信,2020-2021学年将是所有青苗学子学习和成长的美好一年!

My main goal is to ensure top quality education in a caring environment for all students in our Middle School and High School. As a school leader, I place a lot of emphasis on selection and professional development of teachers, knowing that the best outcomes will be achieved if all involved share the same vision and have the opportunity to develop their skills and understanding within the school’s context. As an experienced IB consultant and workshop leader, I enjoy being directly involved in planning and delivering professional development programs with and for the team. In all my plans and actions as a senior leader, I always keep in mind the core activity of the school, which is teaching and learning. BIBS has a strong leadership team and dedicated, talented and hard-working educators. Through collaborative efforts, strong instructional supervision program, planning for possible unexpected developments related to the pandemic and strong and consistent implementation of the school’s mission and related policies, I am confident that the school year 2020-2021 at BIBS will be a great year of learning and growth for all our students.
