To become good citizens and responsible adults, all children need to think creatively and critically, and be able to adapt to change. They need to learn and practice how to acquire, filter, process, and use information to make effective decisions and to communicate with others. They also need to develop self-esteem by participating in a caring school community, which appreciates diversity, and develops in children tolerance, mutual respect, cooperation towards team goals, and a love for learning that will last a lifetime. At the Immersion School we use the 3C’s framework to deliver this holistic education program. Conceptual, Competency, and Character learning in a project-based learning approach that allows students to make connections across disciplines.
What are the 3C’s? They are our Learning Definition. The three C’s give us a common language of learning and for learning.
Conceptual learning: thinking in terms of big ideas and relationships among them
Character learning: developing a positive moral identity as an expert in the business of being human.
Competency learning: acquiring and improving on the key skills necessary for success
As we build capacity in the 3 C’s our teachers will be working specifically to identify authentic opportunities for students to practice being Negotiators, Collaborators, Inquirer’s and Complex thinkers. These competencies relate directly to the future-ready skills needed to help students navigate new environments in college, the workplace, and the future world.
Our identity as a dual language school is at the heart of the learning day and the learning culture here at Immersion School. The dual language structure is so important for the long term sustainability of our students’ academic success. When learning in a second language, such as we do with English, students must also continue to develop and make connection to their first language. Immersion students develop their Mandarin at high academic levels through the Chinese Language Arts, Math, and the National Curriculum. This gives them a continuously growing base of rich knowledge to connect to as they learn in English.
