Good morning, my dear students and colleagues,
The title of my speech today is Squirrels and Teenagers. Beautiful Autumn is here with us. Squirrels are busy preparing for the coming winter. They work hard to collect some kinds of nuts otherwise they won’t survive the cold winter.
How about you, teenagers? Are you preparing for the coming winter, or your future, like squirrels? Do you know what your future will look like? No. None of us knows. The world is changing so fast that no one is able to predict what our future will look like. Let’s think about in 10 years. At that time, you will be in your universities, maybe considering about your jobs. You know what? In 10 years, 45% of jobs won’t exist in 2030, and 85% jobs haven’t been created yet. How can we get ready for our future? Beside setting goals for yourself, what you can do is like squirrels, study hard and try your best. Nothing else.
Have you set your goals in your homeroom handbook? How do you want to contribute to the world when you grow up? Do you want to help with clean air? Hunger? Wild life? There are so many things you can do and so many problems you can help to solve. If you have a goal already, that’s great! Please go for it. If not, please think about it seriously and set a goal for yourself, because if you don’t it’s very easy to get lost, just like a trip without a destination. It’s dangerous!
Then, we all know the next step is to take action. Arrive at school on time, start reading as soon as you sit down in the classroom, be punctual to all your classes, listen carefully and think creatively, and hand in your assessments in time. Respect all people around you, behave well no matter where you are, try to earn points for your houses and be OCAC modals. All those sound easy but if we insist doing it well, you will be ready for your future. I believe in you, all teachers believe in you and your parents believe in you. We are here all the time to support you. Work hard like squirrels and enjoy your precious teenager life!
