LEH International School Foshan's first-ever musical production of The Wizard of Oz was an outstanding success! The play, which featured over 40 of our talented students, was a stunning demonstration of the school's commitment to providing a well-rounded education that goes beyond academics.
The show was performed in front of a packed audience of staff, students and their families from the school community and external guests, who were all amazed by the talent and professionalism of our young performers. The students' performances were simply awe-inspiring. From the lead roles to the chorus, each student brought their own unique talents to the show. The actors delivered their lines with confidence and conviction, and the singers hit all the right notes with ease. The dancers' routines were nothing short of amazing.
One of the most impressive aspects of the production was the hard work and dedication shown by our students. Rehearsals for the musical began months before the actual performance, and our students put in countless hours of practice to perfect their roles. They showed incredible teamwork, commitment, and perseverance, all of which paid off in the end.
Mr Stuart Savill
Director; Head of Drama & Creative Arts Faculty
Over 40 of our students have been part of these performances, including performers, make-up artists, and follow spot operators. Together, and with the support of staff, they have collaborated to create a thoroughly enjoyable show that was enthusiastically appreciated by the whole school in a performance on Tuesday evening, and equally enthusiastic audiences in public performances on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The production team and I have been really impressed by our student cast and how much progress they have made throughout this process. It is hard to believe that for many of them, this is the first experience of a full musical performance, and they have all had to try new things that have pushed them far beyond their comfort zones. The result has been a series of performances that set a high standard for future productions here at LEHF.
Mrs Kathryn Chapman
Assistant Director; Head of English & Language Faculty
The way that the students have supported and believed in each other all the way through the rehearsal process has reflected the story of The Wizard of Oz – of Dorothy and her friends working together to achieve their dreams - so sweetly. It has been a fine example of the collaborative, compassionate spirit of LEH Foshan. We hope that all the students have gained confidence and self-belief through growing as performers.
Mr David Hobourn
Director of Music
Learning the songs has been a real character and confidence-building exercise. I am incredibly proud of all the students who have worked tirelessly on the songs, many of whom have come out of their comfort zone, showing great ‘boldness’ and team spirit.
Ms Danielle Morgan
Choreographer; Head of Sport and Activities
We have experimented with different movements and dance phrases for the show for months. Seeing them at the end of their journey bringing all the elements of dance, song and characterisation together, performing to a high standard with such enthusiasm is very rewarding.
The musical also showcased our school's commitment to providing students with opportunities to develop their skills and interests outside the classroom. Our students had the chance to explore their passions in acting, singing, dancing, and literature, and they were given the resources and support they needed to excel.
Mrs Jane Arden
Headteacher
Being involved in such an activity allows our students the chance to find a new passion, work and socialise with people they might not ordinarily mix with and finally create something truly magical. I hope all involved have enjoyed the process as well as the performances; life is very much about the journey. I think it is true to say that the Wizard of Oz has been a huge success and students will remember it, forever.
At LEH Foshan, we believe that a holistic education is essential for our students' success in life. We are committed to providing our students with opportunities to develop their talents, passions, and skills, as well as to nurture their personal growth and well-being. The Wizard of Oz musical production was a perfect example of our school's philosophy in action. Let’s remember the magic of The Wizard of Oz as we continue on our journeys.
