In daily life, he loves photography. When he takes a photo, he will frame the world and record every unforgettable moment in his life; on campus, he is a student fascinated by technology and artificial intelligence. Exploring in the field of research is another way he learns about the world. He has won many awards in high school and received 6 letters of acceptance from the United Kingdom, Canada, and Hong Kong China during his spring application period.
He is Jimmy, Hongxi Chen, a future science and engineering student who aspires to combine electrical engineering and artificial intelligence development. He is not only an art student who is persistence and romance ,but also with the spirits of studying and simplicity. You can feel the sober and down-to-earth, ideal and realistic temperament of a scholar. Next, let's go into his road to application together.
Focusing and defining the way
The first two years of my campus life at St Bees Dongguan were wonderful. During this time, I participated in countless club activities and enjoyed releasing the energy of my adolescence in music and photography. Those days are indeed treasured with countless fond memories of my life.
Just like photography, you need to focus in order to shoot, so you need to have a clear direction before you can give a best shot. During the application stage, I spent a lot of time researching my preferred universities, from the application process to the ranking of the schools to my preferred majors. I also kept in close contact with my further education teachers and used their help to develop a series of plans for further education.
The hardest part for me was choosing between institutions. I wanted my future university to offer a comprehensive education and practical opportunities, so I chose to study Electrical Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I expect that its excellent faculty and international learning environment will provide a strong boost to my future career development.
Be well prepared for school application
From my love of technology as a child, to my fascination with physics and maths in high school, and then to competitions to learn about artificial intelligence, I slowly discovered the appeal of electrical engineering. Once I had decided on my course of study, I devoted my energy to building my CV and writing my documents.
I know that a good practical experience is not only a good way to develop my skills, but also a good way to shine on my CV. Therefore, I actively participated in several professional practical activities and academic competitions: field trips to battery factories and close interaction with engineers; I participated in the Amazon AWS AI/ML summer camp and developed an artificial intelligence application; I participated in Imperial College's AI online course and learnt about computer vision and natural language processing; I participated in the International Space Station Design Challenge, mathematics competition UKMT and other competitions, winning many awards.
It takes more time and effort to apply to undergraduate programmes in multiple countries at the same time, so I will create a detailed checklist and progress according to a schedule to keep the application on track. Secondly, I would base my application on a streamlined version of the application and adapt it to the requirements of different schools. I also started the application process early to allow more time for revisions.
In the application season, I received recognition from universities in countries and regions such as the UK, Canada and Hong Kong, China - acceptance letters came from King's College London, University of Bristol, University of Southampton, University of British Columbia, Canada, Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Planning and exploring the future
St Bees Dongguan encourages students to explore and experiment, so that they can pursue more. My favourite A Level course at school was maths, which as a practical subject, honed my logical thinking and reasoning skills. My maths tutor, who guided and encouraged me, gave me a great interest in studying science subjects.
My four years of high school have brought me not only warm memories of my youth, but also a direction for the future. In my future university life, I hope to participate in as many extracurricular activities as possible, join music and photography societies, and work hard in the academic field to obtain excellent academic results and explore the direction of integration of artificial intelligence and electrical engineering.
I would advise undergraduates to consider their interests and career goals when choosing a university, and to research the majors and programmes at different universities in order to make the best choice. Whichever university or major you choose, do not be afraid of failure or challenges, but be confident and positive about everything.
Finally, I would like to share my experience of the MLS application with my fellow students:
1.First of all, it is important to have a thorough understanding of the requirements for applying to universities in different countries and to do your research;
2.Start preparing in advance and allow time for revisions and adjustments to your documents;
3.Use the same documents and papers as much as possible and then adapt them to suit the requirements of different schools;
4.The joint application process can be a long one and requires a firm choice and relentless effort;
