LEH International School Foshan recently concluded its highly anticipated Prep Talks, a student speech competition consisting of three rounds of outstanding and innovative ideas shared by our Prep School students. With captivating topics ranging from "How do humans affect the future of endangered animals" to "How can your surrounding world change people," the students displayed remarkable enthusiasm and delivered their talks in an interesting and inspiring way.
Why did you choose to
organise the Prep Talks?
I organised the Prep Talks to motivate challenge and inspire our students to exemplify our 8C’s values that as teachers we provide them with on a daily basis. Alongside the wisdom and guidance to become strong and successful people. These values include collaboration, confidence, commitment craftsmanship, compassion curiosity, creativity, communication alongside motivation, time management, accepting responsibility, and possibility. Our students certainly did rise to the challenge, and they delivered speeches that not only informed us but also entertained us.
Tell us three things that
impressed you most from the event.
Oh my goodness what a difficult question to answer, only three things from all of the events. I would have to say firstly the bravery and determination our students displayed when they received their constructive feedback from each round. Even those who did not get through this time showed the same determination to do better next year.
Secondly, it must be the craftmanship the students displayed when recreating their talks to improve in their attempt to get through to the next round.
Thirdly the commitment and confidence all our students displayed when they entered the Prep Talks. From beginning to end the confidence all the students gained from this experience has shone through to exemplify our ethos of LEH “Hope favours the bold”.
In Round 1, over 40 students bravely took to the stage, delivering a diverse array of captivating speeches. It was a remarkable experience, especially for first-time speakers who overcame their nerves and delivered with confidence. Each speech underwent meticulous evaluation, considering factors such as Confidence, Topic relevancy, Humour, Research quality, Personal presentation, and Presentation of the topic. The competition was undoubtedly challenging to judge due to the remarkable level of commitment and passion displayed by the students.
Moving forward to the second round, we congratulated the sixteen students, some of whom presented in groups, for successfully advancing. Their dedication and hard work were evident as they strived to enhance their delivery, body language, and overall presentation skills. Eleven exceptional students made it through to the final round. Their outstanding performances and ability to connect with the audience set them apart from their peers, demonstrating their exceptional speaking skills and engaging presentation styles.
The grand finale of the Prep Talks took place on 2nd June, and it was a testament to the students' and teachers' hard work and growth throughout the event. Taking constructive criticism to heart, they refined their speeches, improved their delivery, and embraced the challenge of public speaking in front of the whole LEHF community in the school theatre. This courage and curiosity exemplify the qualities that make LEH Foshan students exceptional.
