With that understanding, students worked in groups to assemble a model saltwater car in the lab. students were provided with tires, an engine, two electrodes (a metal slice of magnesium and a graphite slice) and a plastic cup. Working together, they were able to build their car before successfully running the car by adding a little saltwater in the cup. Once completed, the teams successfully had a test run to the cheers of their teammates.
基于这样的了解,学生们分组在实验室里进行组装盐水车模型。实验室为学生们提供了轮胎、发动机、两个电极(金属镁片和石墨片)和一个塑料杯。他们共同努力将盐水车模型组装好,然后在队友的欢呼声中进行了试跑,往杯子中倒入一点盐水,小车便成功运行了起来。
After the initial test run, students brainstormed how to speed up the car’s acceleration. A race was then held between the teams, and the students discovered how to change the factors to optimise the speed of the car:
- The concentration of the electrolyte
- The surface area of the electrodes
- The temperature of the electrolyte
- Volume of the electrolyte
经历首次试跑后,学生们集思广益如何提升小车的速度。然后,小组之间进行了一场比赛,学生们发现了可以通过改变这些因素来优化小车的速度:
-电解液浓度
-电极的表面积
-电解液温度
-电解液的体积
The race came to an end with two teams reaching a time of 28 seconds in the 3-meter race. The winning team explained:
"We used warmer water to dissolve the salt, less water to reduce the load, and we extended one electrode to be twice the size to increase the surface area of the reaction."
在3米赛跑中,有两组以28秒的成绩赢得了比赛。获胜的队伍解释道:
“我们用更高温度的水来溶解盐,用更少的水来减轻小车的负荷,将一块电极延展至两倍大小以增加反应表面积。”
Through this simple hands-on experiment, students developed greater understanding of the ‘rate of chemical reaction’ and how an environmentally friendly car works while discovering the elements of a chemical cell. This activity helped to reinforce the importance of teamwork and realise that chemistry is not complicated but is fun!
通过这个简单的动手实验,学生们在发现化学电池的元素的同时,也对“化学反应速率”和环保汽车的工作原理有了更深入的了解。这次活动让同学们认识到团队合作的重要性,并认识到化学并不复杂,且很有趣!
