At CBIS, we are committed to providing students with high-quality and rich course projects and platform resources.
In our IB PYP programme, students engage in in-depth exploration of their curious and concerned fields guided by their teachers. They can all find the joy and truth of exploration in this diverse course.
CULTURAL EXCHANGE
BETWEEN CHINA & INDIA
On Dec 20, a video conference was held between our PYP G5 students and G5/G6 students from International Department of Jyotirmoy Public School in India.
This exchange is based on the transdisciplinary theme "Who We Are", and children from both schools gradually understand each other during the inquiry process.
In the early stage of unit of inquiry, CBIS grade 5 students gradually deepened their conceptual understanding that "friends need to maintain friendship through mutual understanding" through inquiry-based learning, and further understood the key concept of "connection".
In the going further stage of the unit, they organized and summarized information on India's geography, culture, festivals, animals, and architecture in order to make friends from overseas with different cultural backgrounds, and presented their research findings in posters. Indian children have also presented their fruitful learning outcomes through a similar means.
▲Sharing by Indian students
The children from both countries developed strong interests in each other's cultures during the subsequent cultural exchange conference. They shared their posters and asked questions about the doubts during the inquiry process. Their questions such as "why do Indians choose to light candles at Diwali?" showcased their critical thinking skills. They shared cultural knowledge and enhanced cross-cultural understanding through interaction.
In these authentic and diverse learning experiences, children's understanding of the connection between friends is constantly evolving. The important symbol of deep learning is the iterative development of conceptual understanding, which was fully reflected in this cultural exchange activity, and this is also the unique charm of IB-PYP learning.
Through the exploration of this unit, we have learned that individual physical health depends on the balance between various related factors. In order to better follow this exploration clue, we invited Mr.Kevin, our former chairman of the Parents Committee, to share some knowledge about psychology with our G5 and G6 students.
Mr. Kevin firstly told the differences in different personalities from the perspective of Jung Psychology, which can lead to different external manifestations and internal perceptions and feelings. Then he introduced students to the characteristics of each personality through the MBTI test.
Treat yourself and others with more understanding and respect.
Through Mr Kevin's sharing, our G5 and G6 students have gained a deeper understanding of concepts such as "personality," "psychology," and "myself," which are positively reflected in their daily behaviors such as life and learning.
Our curriculum project in CBIS provides students with a broader learning perspective, allowing them to understand more about history, the world, culture, and more importantly, themselves.
We are carrying out more exploration activities and deepen auxiliary courses on different themes, to help our students create a more harmonious learning community. Stay tuned!
