Good morning fellow teachers and students,
I hope you have all had a fruitful Chinese New year holidays and time to relax.
First of all, I would like to welcome our new students to join the KingFan’s family. Most probably, this is where you will meet the best friends of your life. Please accept our best wishes. And to all the returning students, welcome back. And of course, to our teachers, welcome back too.
My fellow students, what is the purpose for you to enter our school? KingFan is a place for you to learn, to develop and prepare yourself for the future. Secondary study is the most important for your development. A successful learner should “ALWAYS LEARNING and LEARNING ALL WAYS”. Learning will not take place only in the classroom, it will take place in any activities or any small incidents you will meet in school. Remember you will be. Before the holiday, I have met some members of the Students’ Union. They have decided to devote their time to serve the school and our students. This is a very good chance for them to learn, not just serving the others. This is a valuable experience and how much they can learn depending on how they react to it and their attitude towards it.
Here, I would like to quote. Charles Swindoll, an American educator, in his poem ATTITUDE. He says, "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes”.
Remember all students entering our school are students with good talents. However in the course of learning, some of you may forget your strength and ability and give up. I am in the position to remind that you are smart, clever, you are elite students. If you can change your attitude and put effort on your work. You will discover your unlimited potential. If you really want to catch up and try your best to improve, our teachers will always be there to offer their hands. Our school will run different programmes to help our students boosting their potential. Remember your effort and attitude can make your wish come true.
Let me share a story which you may be very familiar with:
“As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.
Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?
Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.”
I would like to sum up my message this morning:
First, “ALWAYS LEARNING and LEARNING ALL WAYS” To develop your full potential, you should seize every chance to learn in the KingFan’s family.
Second,“ Attitude”. A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances and courage to overcome difficulties. I hope you will remember this for the rest of the year, and for the rest of your life.
Let me welcome everybody again, staff and students, new and old. Let’s work closely together for another fruitful year.
Thank you!
