While his peers are still following the usual learning routine, Brian S., a founding student of Harrow Hengqin (G9), has already become the “child everyone admires” — a four-time scholarship recipient, who achieved an A* in IGCSE Music two years early, founded a charity project to help stray animals, and led his house to win honours… What educational wisdom lies behind the story of this versatile student?

Music:Beyond Acceleration

“At Harrow Hengqin, teachers don’t say ‘the time isn’t right’; they ask ‘what support do you need’.” Speaking about taking the IGCSE Music exam two years ahead of schedule, Brian especially highlighted the school’s flexible system — personalised learning pathways. Once his musical talent was recognised, his academic mentor and music teachers designed an “acceleration plan” for him: one-to-one lessons, performance opportunities…

Brian excels at playing the oboe and piano, and this term he’s also learning the organ at school. Currently, he is preparing for his AS Music exam and the LRSM performance diploma.
Medicine:Legacy&Community

Inspired by his doctor grandparents, Brian has aspired to become a doctor since childhood and is currently studying IGCSE Biology, Mathematics, and Physics.

Harrow Hengqin has offered him an unconventional growth path: he joined the school’s very first student medical society, the “Medicine and Public Health Association,” engaging in cutting-edge research projects. The society was founded by Gloria, a G11 student, who motivates Brian to pursue his own goals and aspire to be a role model for the whole school.
Leadership:Compassion in Action

Last year, Brian and his peers launched the “Celestial Charity Fair,” which became a much-talked-about event on campus. From planning to execution, the school provided not only venue support but also gave them a say in decision-making. The event raised 25,000 RMB, helping dozens of stray dogs. This year, the project will expand into a public event.

Leadership is nurtured at Harrow Hengqin: Brian was once the captain of Tu Youyou House, rallying his housemates to win honours. Currently, he is a member of student council, representing the student body, and resolving real issues.
“Here, the school sees me as a musician, a medical student, and a leader — even as I continue learning and growing into these roles.” Brian’s story embodies Harrow Hengqin’s educational philosophy: Educational Excellence for Life and Leadership.
