It was a hot summer day in September 2014, when my journey begins. Basically, since then, Huamei has become my second home.
On the same day, I met our Chinese teacher whom we called, “Ms. Chen”. She greeted us with a smile. From that day on, our Chinese-learning journey began. Everyday our task was no more than copying Chinese characters, hundreds of them, which would prepare us for language learning. Besides, we learnt a lot Chinese culture. To make our learning even more fun and interactive, Ms. Chen taught us many Chinese songs, took us to many historical places in Guangzhou, such as theChen Ancestral Hall and the Guangzhou Museum. I have to say, as an introverted person at first, I bravely took the first step under the encouragement of teacher Chen and participated in various activities, such as a song contest in Fenghuang Community, performed in the Christmas party, and performed in the Indonesian exchange group.
Time flew! Before I knew it, and to my surprise, I passed and got a score that exceeded my expectations on HSK5. After a year of Chinese-learning in international class, Ms. Chen was eager for me to proceed with my learning at a higher level. I was transferred to a local Chinese class to study. I then met Mr. Zhou. He was a very strict Chinese teacher, the total opposite of Ms. Chen, who was warm and friendly. Seriously, I felt huge pressure, yet I told myself not to give up. I cannot believe that I memorized all of the grade 7 – 9 poems in Chinese class. I’m still so grateful to my homeroom teacher, Mr. Zhou, for not being loose on me because I’m a foreigner. Only under such pressure could I have improved that fast. Ms. Chen and Mr. Zhou, they both always told me that I could get into Tsinghua University in the future. If I could use a sentence to describe him, and all teachers, I’d say, “Til the end of life, a silkworm keeps spinning silk. Til burning itself out, a candle goes on lighting us”.
Every flower has to go through the struggle of breaking the ground, and the waiting of budding, before it opens. With the dream of Tsinghua University in my arms, I entered Huamei International High School (HBIC) to study. I always told myself that whenever the tears were about to flow, I could try to do a headstand, there is another side to the upside-down world. In Huamei International High School, I kept in mind my dream of Tsinghua University, and tried my best to blossom. My glory there, I became more confident. Here I am, reaching one step closer to my dream, getting an admission letter from Tsinghua University.
If it were not for all the teachers, my friends and my parents who supported me, I wouldn’t have come this far. For that, I am thankful! Huamei, thanks!
