Dear teachers, students, guests, and parents:
Hello,
I am Samuel Wang from grade eleven class one. I am honored to speak on behalf of the undergraduates on this exciting day. I am very glad that we don’t have to do this online.
To me, today is indeed a special day. One year ago, as a 10th grader, graduation seemed so far away from me. I barely knew any of the graduates, and I simply did not feel anything strong at that time. But today, today is different. Significant changes have happened. It only started about a week ago, and I’m already not sure if I could take it anymore. It’s uncomfortable, that the classrooms I study in are getting emptier, and the dorms I play in are getting quieter; It’s daunting, that the friends I knew for almost three years are leaving, off to a new world, searching for new opportunities. It’s frightening, how time flies with no mercy; And it pains me, that there is an end to this amazing journey.
But at the same time, I feel happy for them, because they have finally harvested the fruits of their hard work; I feel excited for them, because their journey ahead will be filled with the unknown, unseen, and unfathomed; And I would like to thank them, for giving me a goal to look up to, to be someone that I would like to be.
Every happy story deserves a happy ending. Frowning against the inevitable doesn’t change anything. Today is no doubt a day worthy of celebrations, so why don’t we focus on the bright side?
To anyone who is like me, who is struggling in the face of the unavoidable, who is unprepared to tackle change, please remember that today may be the end of school life with them in it, but it is not the end of our story. Stay in touch. There are still plenty of months left. Go and play together; watch a movie together; anything you would like to do together. Even if they’re off to another country, we could still find time to talk. Even if we’re continents apart, we could still come back to SHBS, and talk about, you know, the good old days. It doesn’t have to, and it won’t take forever for us to meet again.
To the graduates, I would like to congratulate every one of you. This won’t be the final page of your story, but nonetheless, it is a momentous success. You made it. Whether it’s your quizzes, your midterms, your finals, your AP, ACT, SAT, TOEFL, Duolingo, social services and events, the list seems to go on forever… But you made it. Give yourselves a good pat on the back, because you deserve it.
I would also like to wish every one of you good luck. Let’s face it, It’s not going to get easier than this. In college, you’ll face far more difficulties. But no worry, you’ve done great so far, keep it up and continue to shine, nothing could stop you.
And finally, I would like to thank every one of you. Thank you for being here. Thank you for staying around. Thank you for helping me when I’m in need and fixing me up when I’m broken. Thank you for all the days studying together. And thank you, for adding color to my campus life. Stay healthy, stay positive, stay golden.
Thank you, and goodbye.
