In a bid to demystify the university application process, NAIS Pudong hosted an insightful session "University Guidance“, where parents gained valuable insights into the roadmap to higher education. The event, featuring a variety of key speakers, covered essential aspects of university guidance, from initiation to application, roles and responsibilities, and important considerations.
1. Navigating the University Journey: The session unveiled the comprehensive roadmap that our students traverse, starting as early as Key Stage 3 and culminating in Year 13. The journey encompasses guidance lessons, university fairs, research, personal statement crafting, standardised test preparation, and application finalisation.
2. Collaborative Roles: The collaborative effort in University Guidance was a central theme. The roles of counsellors, parents, and students were emphasised as vital components of this journey. Counsellors empower students with research and application support, parents engage in shortlisting choices and financial discussions, and students invest in research, recommendation requests, personal statements, and standardised test preparations.
3. Beyond Academics: The session underlined the importance of considering non-academic facets of the university experience. Gap years, foundation programs, and the flexibility to approach degrees from various disciplines were discussed as crucial options for students to explore.
4. Timely Applications: Attendees were informed of key application deadlines, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the application process. Notable dates included early deadlines for Medicine, Veterinary, Dentistry, and Oxbridge in the UK, as well as early and regular application timelines for institutions worldwide.
The "University Guidance" session showcased our school's commitment to providing clear and effective support for students on their journey to higher education. This collaborative approach among counsellors, parents, and students ensures that the transition is well-planned and smooth. With these valuable insights, our school continues to empower students to make informed choices about their future in academia.
