We are pleased to announce Mr. Douglas Ray as Associate Head of School (Teaching and Learning) and Secondary Principal (High School), effective August 1st 2025.
An accomplished educational leader with deep experience in both U.S. boarding schools and China's bilingual education sector, Douglas brings a unique blend of pedagogical expertise and visionary leadership.
After three years of teaching in the University of Mississippi’s English Department, Douglas spent a decade teaching and leading at two prestigious boarding schools, Indian Springs School and Western Reserve Academy. In addition to teaching English, Latin, and Greek, he led curriculum development and revision at both schools and contributed to successful enhancement of admission and college counselling efforts. He believes boarding schools have unique transformative potential for holistic education. His diverse experience informs his belief that "the best schools build resilient systems and aligned communities around a core set of values and practices."
A third-generation educator, Douglas transitioned from leadership of well-established boarding schools to adapting to Chinese educational contexts in 2020. He has held key leadership positions at Yungu High School, Avenues Shenzhen, and Shenzhen Mingwan School. He has deep respect for the Chinese dedication to educational excellence and thrives in finding ways to create schools that are engines of opportunity.
Douglas holds a B.A. in Classics and English and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Mississippi. He received a Klingenstein Fellowship from Columbia University and additional training in educational leadership at Northeastern University. "I'm thrilled to join Dipont Huayao Collegiate at this exciting juncture," he notes, "and look forward to strengthening our academic programs while preparing students for global opportunities."
