我们将于下周举办选课日活动，向学生和家长开放。届时，所有 A-Level 学科老师、学术领导层和升学指导团队将到场为学生提供一对一的沟通机会，让家长和学生对意向学科有更深入的了解，讨论在下学年升读A-Level时可以期待什么，带来怎样具实践性的建议，并开始考虑未来大学专业，以及哪些学科对孩子未来的职业生涯最有帮助。

Lucton is hosting a subject choices day next week, open to students and parents. All A-Level subject teachers, the Academic Leadership Team and the University Guidance Team are present to provide practical advice and opportunities for students and parents to discuss their expectations of the A-Level programme next academic year.

“这次活动的目的是让家长和学生对学校提供的不同学科有很好的了解，并开始认真考虑未来大学的专业，以及哪些学科对孩子未来的职业生涯最有帮助。”学术副校长Frank 老师说到，“选课大会结束后，上海莱克顿学校的教学管理团队会仔细地审核学生的选课， 尽可能满足学生的选择。有时学生的课表时间会有些冲突，教学管理团队也会积极解决， 最终为学生提出最佳的学习和选课方案，助力学生的个性化成长和大学升学。”

“The purpose of this event is for parents and students to get an overview of the different subjects on offer and to start thinking of university majors and which subjects will best support the students in their future careers.” Deputy Head Academic of Teaching and Learning, Mr Frank Feng said, “All choices will be reviewed by the academic team prior to starting in August. If there are class clashes or time conflicts, the academic management team will solve the problems actively to work out the best subject choices and studying plans for all the students and help students in their individual developments and college admission. ”

01. 升学指导观点

莱克顿升学指导老师概述大学申请基本过程，将A-Level课程对学生升学、人生发展的影响与关系分析给学生。至此，学生会有所判断，添加合适的科目以及删减自己的薄弱科目。

02. 学科老师一对一交流

活动当天，学科老师会在A-Level课程背景下介绍其所教授的科目，为学生提供该科目的信息，并说明在该学科取得成功所需的知识及技能要求。老师们还将在选科日现场提供教科书、课程大纲和考题样本，以说明该科目的评估目标。事实上除了选科活动日当天，在选科期间学术老师们随时欢迎学生、家长们的相关提问。

03. 家校实时互动

莱克顿学校非常重视家长在学生个人学术发展中起到的积极引导作用。选科对于学生至关重要，我们为此会实时跟进学生的学习情况并进行汇报，不仅限于家长会和选科日活动。学校、老师、家长和学生都是升学道路上共同的“战友”。

We will help students and parents with subject choices from three aspects：

01. Perspectives from University Guidance

Lucton's University Guidance teachers outline the basic process of university application and provide analysis of the impact of the A-Level subjects on further studies and life development. At this point, students will need to add suitable subjects and drop their weaker ones.

02. Subject Teacher Communication

Subject teachers will provide subject-specific information in the context of the A-Level curriculum and explain the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the subject. They will also have textbooks, specifications and samples of exam questions to demonstrate the assessment objectives and illustrate the language and technical requirements. Apart from the subject choices event, subject teachers always welcome relevant questions from students and parents.

03. Home-School Interaction

Lucton attaches great importance to the positive guiding role played by parents in students' personal academic development. Subject choice is of paramount importance to students, so the school follows up and reports on their learning in real-time, not just during parent-teacher conferences and subject choices days. Schools, teachers, parents and students are all "comrades in arms" on the pathway to higher education.

Because this is an important and crucial step to turn students' dreams into reality, a far-reaching self-orientating on the way to university: What do I like? What do I want to do in the future? How can I do it? Can I do it?

Through the two years of IGCSE, Y11 students have gradually understood the subjects they excel in and completed the "What do I like?" and "What do I want to do in the future?" This is the solid foundation for the next step of A-Level subject choices.

01. 未来的大学专业

在选科的时候，这是第一个要考虑的因素。前面提到过，大学专业注重深度多于广度，所以在A-Level时期打下坚实的基础是非常重要的。正因如此，很多大学会要求想要申请某一专业的学生一定要选择某一门核心科目。

02. 科目的A*率

顶尖的大学很多都会要求申请者获得A*A*A甚至更高的成绩，那么我们当然希望学生选择尽可能多的拿到A*的科目冲击梦校。

03. 个人的兴趣

这是选科的重要因素之一。实际上兴趣应该排在首位，因为A-Level原本的选科制度就是为了让学生可以自由探索自己的兴趣所在，并为大学里继续深入地学习做基础准备。但现实是大学对A-Level的要求有硬标准，我们可能不得不牺牲一部分兴趣来满足学校的要求，需要合理的平衡兴趣与学习。

01. Subject choice is the first factor to consider when choosing a major in a future university. As mentioned earlier, university majors focus on depth more than breadth, so it is vital to lay a solid foundation during the A-Level curriculum. For this reason, many universities require students who wish to apply for a particular major to choose a specific core subject.

02. Many top universities will require applicants to obtain A* or even higher grades. We hope students can choose as many A* subjects and achieve A* as possible to apply for their dream school.

03. Personal interest is another crucial factor in choosing subjects. In fact, interest should be at the top of the list, as the original A-Level subject choices system tried to give students the freedom to explore their interests and prepare them for further study at university. However, the reality is universities have high standards for A-Level curricula. Students may have to sacrifice some of their interests to meet the requirements for university, requiring a reasonable balance between interest and learning.

“要意识到你需要找到方法将自己与同龄人区分开来，所以不要选择某个专业的常规课程，而是选择一门可能会对你具有挑战性并给你带来新兴趣的，例如：如果你未来想学习经济学专业，那么学习心理学或设计工艺课程可能会为你申请的大学专业提供一个新的视角。”

"How to use A-Level subjects to fulfil university major requirements?" University Counsellor, Serena said, "Certain majors have certain subject requirements, but generally, it is common sense: If you are doing a science-based major, you should have a Science and a Math. If you are doing a humanities-based major, you need a Social Science and a Language."

"Realize that you want to find ways to separate yourself from your peers, so avoid taking usual subject routes for a particular major and instead, take a course that might challenge you and give you a new interest, for example: if you want to study Economics, taking Psychology or Design Technology might offer a new perspective on your major."
