There is no such wordas "Can't"
Mr. Cassin has rich experience in physical education teaching. For the past 12 years, he has dedicated his life to developing key skills for young people through physical activities. He applies his passion and enthusiasm for sports into every activity: planning & delivering physical education to young people, developing & managing the curriculum, training other members of staff on how to deliver an effective PE lesson, coaching gifted and talented performers in a variety of sports, managing annual sporting competitions, etc.
He is a huge admirer of encouraging "Growth Mindset" with our pupils, and he believes that there is no such word as "Can't". If a child in his class expresses that they "can't do it", he will tell them to repeat that sentence with the word "yet" on the end. Besides, Mr. Cassin always try to teach our pupils that with hard work and focus, they can overcome any challenge placed in front of them. Besides, he also believes that making mistakes is all part of the process for effective learning. When he was training to become a teacher, he was told that the word "FAIL" stands for "First Attempt In Learning".
During the long holiday before back to school, KSS has organized an event called Virtual Games Week to reduce theamount of screen time as well as improve the children's mental & physical well-being. In the first week back at school, Heads of Pre-prep and Mr. Cassin went to each class to present medals and certificates to the winning students to celebrate their achievements.
Physical Education is one of the most importantsubjects in school life
Mr. Cassin has been passionate about sports and has always been enthusiastic about physical education teaching. He considers that Physical Education is one of the most important subjects in school life. Indeed, physical activity is essential for the healthy physical and mental development for children:
It encourages healthy growth and body development for our students.
It aids in improving fundamental skills, such as balance, flexibility,co-ordination and spatial awareness.
It benefits our pupil's mental state by reducing the likelihood ofdepression and anxiety.
It allows children to have clearer thoughts and helps young people todevelop skills such as mental resilience.
It allows children to build new friendships by giving them theopportunity to improve their teamwork skills and cooperate with peers theywould not normally work with.
It gives a chance for students to demonstrate leadership qualities inaddition to building confidence and helping children to understand the importanceof empathy.
There are many cross-curricular links when delivering physical education, and they can help students achieve all-round development!
Our pupils are constantly developing their English language ability by learning new words and phrases associated to different sports and activities.
Science (Biology) has a huge role to play in PE as pupils and Mr. Cassin often discuss what changes happen in our bodies during exercising, as well as what part of our bodies (muscles, bones) we are using for each activity.
Pupils are frequently tested on their mathematics ability as differentgames and activities requires different scoring systems.
There is a regular link to Geography as Mr. Cassin often educateschildren about which countries different sports come from and which regions ofthe world each sport is most popular in. Therefore, students’ spatialperception and geographical ability are improved imperceptibly.
KSS is full of potential and possibilities
From London to Shenzhen, Mr. Cassin hopes to challenge his teaching methods further as well as emerge himself in a new country and the wonderful culture that comes with it. He chose to work at KSS as he was excited about the potential and the amount of possibilities of KSS.
The teachers from the KSS share the same goal of creating a safe and calm environment for our pupils to flourish. Our school provides all pupils with high quality PE lessons every week, and the curriculum focuses on a variety of topics for each year group with the intention being to use as many different activities as possible to develop the children's fundamental skills.
A large proportion of the lessons in K1 and K2 employs "Games Activities" to achieve our learning goals, however as the year progresses, the children will be introduced to more specialized activities such as, athletics, yoga, dance and gymnastics. In K3, the children advance to more sport specific activities, such as invasion games (basketball & football), racquet skills (tennis & badminton) and striking and fielding games (cricket & baseball).
One of the main advantages of PE at KSS is the focus on participation aswell as ability. Every child mattersso we try to ensure that PE is fun to encourage the less confident students taking part as well as making sure certain activities are challenging to motivate the more physically active. We also make surethere is a great variety of sports and activities available to the pupils atKSS – a child may struggle with one sport however could excel in a differentsport. There is no better feeling than seeing our pupils being physicallyactive with a smile on their face and Mr. Cassin is extremely excited to seeall our children progress in the future.
King's Prep and Senior School, which will open in Autumn 2022, will be equipped with state-of-the-art stadiums and facilities. At that time, KSS will provide more diversified sports and activities!
