致中学部家长的一封信
在NCIC实验部,我们始终坚信,家庭是影响学生学业和成长的主要因素。

Even though we are still in the middle of a pandemic, I am grateful that our students are able to meet in person, largely attributed to you - our families who have taken the appropriate measures to keep healthy and stay safe.
For us at NCIC-Immersion, we believe that family is the primary influence on an individual’s development and learning. This belief is supported by research about parent involvement at your student’s education. One study conducted at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University informs us that parent’s involvement can significantly affect the student’s attendance, academic engagement and performance, pursuit of higher education, stronger social skills and fewer disciplinary issues.
Here, we offer strategies that you can use to be effective in this regard:
make sure your students attend school everyday. When you do need to take them out of school, please seek approval with the Principal in advance of the day.
ensure students complete the assigned tasks and ask for clarifications when the work is unclear.
stay connected with your students as often as possible. We know that friends can take top priority in the adolescent lives, hence, it is crucial to maintain your interest in them. It is more than just talking about school work and grades, rather, show that you are interested in their emotional conditions at school. For example, what makes the student feel happy? When does the student feel bored? How is the student getting along with the classmates? Is there an adult whom the student can speak with anytime?
set aside time to read as a family activity. We advocate for a love of reading in our students by teaching them the strategies for reading comprehension and modelling for them the reading habits in the school.
set aside a technology-free time or technology-free zone in the house, and model appropriate behaviours whilst using technology.
provide opportunities for your student to explore different activities in the community.
attend our Back to School Night, Parent Academy, student-led conference, learning exhibition and any other school events that celebrates or showcase student learning.
stay connected with the app WeChat Works as a method to facilitate clearer and more efficient method of home school communication. We hope this connection with the school will give you better insight into the special events, celebrations, and content of the student’s learning progress
(most importantly) get to know the subject teachers of your students and reach out to them when questions arise.
These strategies are helpful not only to the academic, social and emotional development of your students, but they can strengthen family relationships. As they seek and develop independence, your students need to know that you care and understand them even if they are showing little interest in you at the time. Your involvement, according to the research, can affect the student’s sense of ability, and the confidence about their success in learning. All of the Secondary teachers and I are building a partnership with you so that every student can achieve success in their learning journey.

我们分享以下几点建议,希望能为您提供有效的帮助:
确保学生每天正常到校。如果学生因故无法上学,请提前向校长请假。
确保学生完成作业。若学生不确定作业内容,请要求学生自行问清。
尽可能做到经常与孩子沟通。在青少年时期,孩子通常会把朋友放在第一位,所以对孩子的朋友表现出兴趣非常重要。与孩子们的沟通不仅是围绕他们的功课和分数,更重要的是关心他们在学校的情绪状况。比如,什么令他高兴?他什么时候感到无聊?他与班级同学相处地如何?他身边是否有他信赖的,可以随时沟通的成年人?
安排家庭共读时间。我们希望学生爱上阅读,因此在学校,老师们也会教授学生如何阅读,并培养阅读习惯。
在家规定无电子产品时间或安排无电子产品区域,家长以身作则,示范如何合理使用电子设备。
为学生提供参与不同社区活动的机会。
参加学校的课程之夜,家长学堂,学生主导的家长会,学习展和其他展示和庆祝学生学习成果的学校活动。
加入学校的企业微信。它是更加高效和清晰的家校沟通渠道,我们希望通过这一紧密的沟通平台,能让您更加了解学校的特别活动,庆典以及与学生学业相关进展。
最重要的是,认识学生的科任老师并获取他们的联系方式,如有问题请及时与老师联系。
这些建议不仅能帮助学生获得学业进步,还能促进其社交与情感的发展,更能帮助与家庭建立良好的亲子关系。在孩子开始变得更加独立时,他们的注意力可能不在家长身上,但家长还是有必要让孩子感受到您对他的关心和理解。根据研究表明,家长的参与会影响学生的自我认知能力和取得学业成功的信心。NCIC 实验部全体中学部老师和我都会与您紧密合作,帮助每位学生获得成长和成功。
