In Grade 3 our students are happy to obey the classroom norms and rules as their teacher Mr Parker is an expert in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial art. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art whose central theme is the skill of controlling a resisting opponent in ways that force him to submit and much of the sport is centred around the skill of taking an opponent down to the ground and wrestling for dominant control positions. We are happy to report that our students tend to submit before they reach the ground.
We wish all our Grade 3 students a gold medal year here at SAIS.
A large part of the first 4 weeks of Grade 3 has been an emphasis on literacy. We’ve been planting a lot of seeds in our writers’ notebooks and learning about all the different ways we can put our ideas down on paper and bring them to life! We have been learning about something new. We are learning that writers get many of their ideas from their life experiences and because of this their writing is more meaningful to them. They write about things they see, feel, and what they experience. One thing we all have experienced is our name. We each have our own name and it came from somewhere special. Let’s look at a few examples from our class.
