A unique coffee morning was held, outdoors at BMH Pre School, on the morning of 28th October. Over fifty parents came to school to share a wonderful morning of learning and building together with the teachers and children in our little garden.
The coffee morning began with Ms Grace, the head of BMH Preschool, who introduced the concept of "Nature Education" to parents: "When children watch a flower in the sun, they learn how it produces fruit and seeds when it's gone. When they listen in the shade, and identify the different sounds of birds. When the breeze brings the fragrance of various plants, their hearts are filled with joy." Children who grow up in nature have a keen sense of perception and an easily aroused joy. They love to explore and are patient enough to see, think and then act."
Ms DuoDuo from the Baozang Cultural Arts Centre is the the designer of our garden, she guided the parents through the names of over 50 plants in the Four Seasons Garden, Rain Garden, Shade Garden and Aroma Garden. Some of the parents were experienced gardeners and shared their experiences in managing their own gardens.
Mums and dads worked together to spread the pine bark under the seesaw. The children were able to play among the flowers and watch the butterflies and bees flying around.

On this morning, it happened to be Nature class for K3A and K3B. Ms Joy, the assistant head of BMH Preschool, led the children through an introduction to common insects in the garden and they learned the relevant English expressions. The parents worked with children to build bird houses and insect houses and they helped children to hang the "little houses" in the trees.
The K3 students worked in groups looking for insects in the garden with their Bug Hunt list and recorded them by number. "Learn through play" is exactly the educational philosophy of BMH Pre School.
Every parent and child left their own 'marks' in the garden and remembered the morning with "joy, love and devotion"
Located in front of the BMH Pre School, this small community garden called "Nature and Childhood" was born out of the Shenzhen government's idea of "building a garden city" and it is one of the 120 "community gardens" in the city in 2021. Since late June, the project has been supported by the City Management and Law Enforcement Bureau of Longhua District, Guanlan Street Office, Mission Hills Craft Workshop and City Treasures Culture and Art Centre. Teachers, parents and students from BMH Preschool have also participated in the design. This small garden unites the contributions and expectations of many people.

I hope our city will continue to develop and with the care of the whole society, our children will grow and bloom as pretty as flowers.
