Favorite moment at ISNS

There are too many…winning a match as the "invincible" goal keeper, acting like Mr. Desousa at the mountain hikes, performing with my band……but my favorite…the most memorable moment, will be the award ceremony when I was G9. It is when everything changes. One "advancement award" can change a boy.

What career are you hoping to have? 

Senior manager / policy maker / politician / professor…economics is a field with many potentials.

What was the application process/experience like? 

Full of challenges and surprises…but I'm grateful.

Why did you choose this university? 

UCLA is a well-known university with excellent acamdemics resources, it has an amazing campus, a great soccer team, and warm weather.

What are you excited about? 

New stage of my life: people I will meet, things I will learn, and stories to be written.

What's on your 'bucket list' before going to university? 

Have a book full of heart-warming signatures and messages from classmates and friends in ISNS…and hopefully I can write them something as well.

How did ISNS prepare you for university? 

Ms. Hackett and Ms. Rao(University and Career Counsellors) are so supportive and helpful~ Can't do it without them! 

What will you miss about ISNS? 

The people.

When Mr. Carroll told you not do something, listen carefully and have it in mind, because someone must have done it before and stunned all the teachers.

Joshua stands out in my mind as a student who is truly committed to learning. In every task, whether a major assessment or a casual classroom activity, Joshua expresses himself thoughtfully and thoroughly. He wants to fully understand the perspectives of other people and confidently offers his opinions on any topic. Joshua is sincerely fascinated with human nature and the various cultures and lifestyles of the vast world. This energy of his will no doubt shine in his future.

Joshua is a natural role-model among his cohort. He holds himself to high academic standards, puts in the work necessary to live up to them, yet never comes off as aloof or out of touch with his peers. Students such as Joshua, who bring their love of learning, active curiosity, and thoughtful questions to class each day validate the work we put in as teachers - it's been a satisfying reminder that the spirit of human inquiry lives on, even as the temptation to automate all aspects of our lives continues at an accelerated pace.
