Over the past decade, I have worked at a school in London, and I have had in-depth interactions with many alumni. Many graduates reflect on their time at school with gratitude, realizing that the moral support provided by the school pushed them to become better individuals.
During their youth, they sometimes couldn't comprehend our educational goals, but now, after many years, as their minds have matured, they understand the good intentions behind these actions and how they received care and protection.
The purpose of moral education is to make every child feel cared for and loved.
Outstanding academic achievements, excellent moral care, and a rich array of curricular activities (CCAs) are the pride of Shenzhen MIS and one of the reasons I love this job.
A child's time at school lays the foundation for their entire life. Moral care ensures that every child constantly feels cared for and loved, helping them develop good character while assisting them in determining their life goals, what kind of person they want to become, and helping them achieve those goals.
So, "nurture with love" is a constant theme in the work of MIS. We need to understand and empathize with the motivations behind each child's behavior and guide them to understand what constitutes acceptable behavior and the consequences of inappropriate behavior in real life.
Strictness and love, like two sides of a coin.
When I think of moral care, it's like two sides of a coin. When we educate students, perhaps it means they might face consequences, but this is an act of care. The purpose is to make them understand that there are consequences to wrongdoing, and we want them to have the best possible youth.
As adolescents, all norms and guidance take place in school, especially in boarding schools. Relationships among classmates are a natural part of adolescence. For behaviors like early romance, we should be very clear about what appropriate behavior is and how we expect others to interact in a friendly manner. So, for behaviors like student romance, we are very clear about our expectations and how such situations develop."
