A key step in putting our promise of an authentic British education into practice took place this September. Teachers from our Shenzhen and Haikou Pre school received hands-on training in "Talk for Writing" and "Phonics" from UK experts, ensuring our methods meet the highest international standards.
Over the three-day training, staff explored the structure and delivery of phonics lessons with an emphasis on clear sequencing and engaging activities, participated in a step-by-step Level 3 lesson walkthrough as a model for effective classroom practice, and learned assessment techniques to track student progress and guide future planning.
They also gained a deeper understanding of how each level of the Twinkl program builds upon the last, discovered games and actions to reinforce instruction and aid retention, and became familiar with the Twinkl Phonics platform—including how to access teaching resources, lesson enhancements, and interactive games designed to make learning dynamic and enjoyable.
The training highlighted how vocabulary, oral storytelling, and interactive techniques can support children’s literacy development. Teachers also learned about key tools such as the S-shape story map, story sacks, and the story mountain/rope technique, all designed to help students visualise and structure their own stories.
