Every Children’s Day, many kindergartens are busy preparing performances. Children practice their movements repeatedly and memorize their lines, all for a perfect show on stage. This year, just like in previous years, we chose a different path. We did not organize a large-scale performance, arrange endless rehearsals, or ask children to spend their precious time striving for perfectly synchronized acts.
Because we have always believed:
Children’s Day should not simply be a celebration performed for adults—it should be a day that truly belongs to children.
More than a wonderful performance, we treasure the genuine smiles that come from children’s hearts. More than rounds of applause, we value their authentic and joyful childhood experiences.
Today, the Children Were in Charge!
This year’s Children’s Day celebration was themed “Colour Burst Party – A Dopamine Energy Party.” Through vibrant colours, free exploration, and joyful experiences, we hoped every child could enjoy a celebration that truly belonged to them. From the moment they entered the kindergarten, children were surrounded by a festive atmosphere. Bright decorations, creative photo spots, and adorable painted little monsters filled the campus with excitement. It felt as though happiness itself was floating in the air. What made this day especially meaningful was that there were no tasks to complete and no performances to present. The children simply needed to enjoy being children and celebrate their special day.
Wow! Does Magic Really Exist?
A magical performance never fails to capture children’s attention. As one astonishing trick after another unfolded before their eyes, the room filled with excited reactions: "Wow!" "How did you do that?" "Do it again!" Their curiosity, imagination, and desire to explore were sparked and amplified in every moment. Because learning doesn’t happen only in classrooms—it also happens through wonder, surprise, and discovery.
Stepping into Yayoi Kusama’s World of Dots
In the “World of Dots,” children became little artists. Inspired by the works of Yayoi Kusama, they used colourful dots to decorate everything around them. There were no right answers and no identical creations. Every child expressed their ideas in their own unique way. Because true art is never about copying—it is about creating.
Today, I’m the Chef!
During the Dopamine Fruit & Vegetable Ice Cream Workshop, children created their own imaginative treats. They cut fruit, arranged ingredients, experimented with colours, and designed their own edible masterpieces. Food became much more than something to eat—it became an exploration of the senses, creativity, and practical life skills. When children proudly showed off their creations, we saw much more than delicious food. We saw confidence, growth, and accomplishment.
The Most Special Part: A Children’s Day Buffet Designed by the Children
This year’s Children’s Day buffet lunch and birthday celebration came with a special story. The menu was not decided by a nutritionist, nor by the principal. Instead, it was chosen through discussions among the children themselves.
"I want grilled chicken wings!" "I loved the yogurt garden dessert from the last birthday party!" "Can we have Yakult at kindergarten?"
The children shared their ideas, listened to one another, and worked together to make decisions. At first glance, it may seem like a simple menu selection. But behind it were valuable opportunities to develop essential life skills: expressing opinions, listening, negotiating, respecting others, and participating in decision-making. At KOFA Kindergarten, we believe children are not merely participants in activities. They are the creators of them.
Joy Found in Bubbles, Water, and Laughter
Every year, when we ask children what they most want to do on Children’s Day, one answer appears again and again: “Play with water!”
Under the sunshine, bubbles drifted through the air. Children ran, splashed, chased one another, and laughed freely with their water blasters. Their clothes got wet—and that was okay. Their hair became messy—and that was okay too.
What mattered was that they were experiencing one of childhood’s simplest and purest joys. Those sunlit smiles were more precious than any stage performance could ever be.
Gifts Will Be Opened, but Childhood Memories Will Last Forever
As the day gradually came to an end, children held their Children’s Day gifts, carried colourful balloons, and prepared to head home with hearts full of happiness. Some excitedly told their parents about the bubble battle. Some proudly showed off the treats they had made themselves. Some were still talking about the magical performance. And some simply said: “I was so happy today!”
愿每一个孩子都能在爱与尊重中成长;
愿每一个孩子都能保有探索世界的勇气;
Many years from now, children may not remember every performance they ever took part in.
But they will remember:
The bubbles they chased.
The water guns they played with.
The food they made with their own hands.
The cake they shared with friends.
And the day they truly became the owners of their own Children’s Day.
That is the Children’s Day gift we hope to give every child.
May every child grow up surrounded by love and respect.
May every child keep the courage to explore the world.
May every child enjoy a childhood that shines brightly.
Happy Children's Day!
