Primary News Issue 38

Dear SIS Families,

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for the student-led conferences this week. It was wonderful to see the students both in our Jingshan and The Baty campuses take an active role in sharing their learning and growth. The level of preparation and engagement from the students was truly impressive.

We appreciate you taking the time to attend these conferences and support your child's educational journey. Your partnership and involvement are invaluable. We look forward to continuing to work together to ensure the success of all our students.

Moving forward, we encourage you to continue discussing your child's progress at home. Celebrate their successes and work together to set new goals for the coming months. As we prepare for the next calendar year, maintaining this open communication between school and home is key to supporting each student's academic and personal growth. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any other questions or concerns. We are here to help in any way we can.

In Grade 1, students explore how passions and interests build knowledge and develop perseverance. Students inquired about varied hobbies and how they can express themselves differently through their passions. They improved their leadership skills by teaching others about their passions and learning with their peers and parents.

At SIS, we believe in the relationship between school and parents as a strong way to support our students’ learning growth. Parents are welcomed into our classrooms as part of our learning community and we appreciate all their involvement in our little Geckos’ education. Here is a parent from 1B sharing his passion for insects. He brought his personal collection and informative books about bugs. He taught students all about his passion. His story is a real-life example of perseverance that students could experience. Thank you!!!

Among the learning shared during Student-Led Conferences, Kindergarten students showcased their creativity and innovation through the How The World Works Design Cycle Fair.  Learning about the design cycle and the science of forces and simple machines inspired some amazing explorations.

The design process is made up of steps that lead from a design idea to a finished product.

• KA used the design cycle to make imaginative playground creations.

• KB impressed us with their "KB City" project.

• KC delighted everyone with their individual snack boxes and a boat inventions.

• KD amazed us with their final projects “the Cheese Serving Machine” which they created in pairs.

• KFIP captivated the audience using the design cycle to focus on “making things that fly.”

Here are exciting art events in the primary this week!

The PreK 2 to Grade 1 showcased creative works in the Student Choice Art Exhibition, celebrating their learning and artistic development.

In the Jingshan campus, students expressed their creativity by decorating geckos with the theme of "Unity in Diversity". This is in honor of our school's 35th anniversary and to highlight the diversity of our caring community. Come see them in the Jingshan library.

Finally, students inspired by the artist Mr. Doodle created a vibrant mural, which has been installed in the garden behind the Jingshan library.

Thank you to Ms. Susan and Ms. Dodo for guiding our artists to complete these projects that showcase their creative expressions.

本周在小学部有一些令人兴奋的艺术活动！

PreK 2年级至1年级的学生们在“学生选择艺术展”中展示了他们的创意作品，庆祝他们的学习和艺术发展。
